That kills me too, the first two websites they wanted to censor happened to be hip hop websites! Don't you see this ironic?!?!

I agree. There are plenty of other sites with genres that aren't hip hop that are up and running.

I'd definitely fight against this bill, it's very bad!

Other then the issue with pirated music, in which if one had an issue with getting albums, then one can get albums from the artists directly!

You just gave the government your freedom to use the internet for other reasons not even including downloading! (Well actually they took it from us)

The main reason they're doing this is because the record companies are not receiving money off of albums anymore.
But in reality this could lead to worse things, such as censoring history pages or pages or research that they feel may be "threatening".

I'm not challenging piracy, I disagree with it too, especially due to the fact that the artist him/herself could use self promotion to engage the audience into buying and
also the emergence of itunes and similar vehicles like that! But when no one challenges bills like this, who knows what other sneaky shit they may pull!!

I understand what you saying, but...the government gon do what they want anyway. I just wanna see some money become available for artist to get good promotion and release dates. And be able to make and put out some good music.

The government just showed it has power over a mass amount of people in this nation, smh!

If you wanna find good music, you have to look for it now, simple and plain!!

censoring these sites wouldn't get good music playing on the radio/TV, they're trying to put the money back in the record companies pocket!!
I could name like a few hip hop sites that sell music legally and lets you listen to tracks before you buy, and I also know some sites that get singles
directly from the artist for promotion.

And I also know like a thousand different artists who've made their money on touring, self promotion, etc.!!

Looks like I'm gonna have to play Young Guru again, everything he says is the truth

Another thing I found ironic is that they are trying to pass this law under people's noses, how come this news isn't being told in all formats,

I want the people reading into this thing to realize that there's a hidden agenda into these people's intentions!

I wanna to show you guys this too

Moves like this will do fuck all when it comes to people downloading free music anyway. If one site gets shut down another three spring up. If you don't want to use Limewire then you use Google, newsgroups, torrents, etc.

The horse has already bolted, people aren't up for paying for music any more, simple as, especially when they've been robbed by greedy and backwards music executives that are too stubborn to adapt to technology and the times, plus people could be spending their money on other things in place of music. If the record labels sorted this mess out ten years ago when Napster turned up then they wouldn't need the US government to start shutting down websites for them, and the fact that as soon as Rap Godfathers got shut down they were immediately back up and running again just illustrates what a massive waste of time and money this whole thing is. Any form of censorship is just going to drive whatever it is they're trying to censor further underground. People are going to get their music regardless.

On another note the US is now one step closer to matching The Great Firewall of China. Well done

And coincidentally just the other day I was at school watching this movie about Turkey and their rules when some guy entered YouTube and was greeted by a block message that said the government had blocked the site from being entered. That's fucked up, if shit like this transfers to U.S. then I'm definitely staying in Sweden unlike how I'm actually planning my future.

First of all im smh at all these record companies and their artist for saying how much money they are losing because of illegal downloading, technicaly you dident lose shit caues you just cant assume that if i did not download that jay z album i would have bought it from the store, second please anybody name me one artist that has been hurt by illegal downloading, give me one nigga who is basically rappen for free cause his shit don't sell cause we always downloading it,ALSO ALOT OF THESE SITES THEY SHUT DOWN WONT STOP THE PROBLEM, I GET ALL MY MUSIC THREW GOOGLE JUST TYPE IN WHAT YOU WANT AND IT TAKES YOU RIGHT TO WHERE YOU CAN GET IT

You dont have a right to steal someones shit illegally making an album cost money. beats, features and marketing all cost millions.

its just like going to the store and taking somebody CD"s. The reason why lupe, joe budden, and J cole

have a hardtime getting release dates. is because the return on investment money wise so small on

anybody who isnt Drake, Kanye, wayne etc.

and the same ppl who download complain about drake, and nicki being in the radio all the time hypocrites.

joe budden and J cole would be just as big as rick ross and jezzy if it wasnt for downloading

Many artists have begun to use it, remember I told you to get the music from the artist directly
some distribute their material through this and other venues like it!!
Shit myspace and facebook do the same thing to a capacity!!

http://bandcamp.com/
For instance J-Live releases his mixtapes and albums on bandcamp and he has an option of charging people for the material
His EP is 4 bucks and I'm only using him as an example!

Some of these artists would rather sell independently than to sign that major label contract!

i'd rather go to 2db and get the songs that are intentionally leaked by the artist..
they remove the songs if the artist request it... everybody wins

Actually spotify > everything else when it comes to streaming. Too bad it's yet to be launched in America but over here in most parts of Europe we enjoy it a lot. And ain't shit illegal about it either, the artists and labels themselves agree to put up the music there and tons of stuff is available although it's currently in a bad state since many albums are restricted to a few countries and others refuse to take part. At least all the big names in hip-hop have their shit available there. My only problem is that there's no Geto Boys yet (though they had it a few months back but with that chopped & screwed shit instead of the original albums)

The only ones that directly refuse to have their music there are the labels that own the music to the likes of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Beatles and other big name rock groups. They think they are too good but little do they know they are behind the times and have to catch up.
