bootlegging was mostly going on in the innercity the hood which is only a small percent

of record sales. You dont see bootleggers on the burbs where the bulk of the sales come from.

as far as budden goes in 2003 budden 1st album( his worst album) sold 500,000 copies. his last album 35,000

rick ross current album teflon don is at 312,000. you cant tell me the internet buzz is making up the difference.

hell canibus sold 300,000 back in 99 when ppl were dubbing. and now he cant even move 5,000 records. downloading has had 30 times the impact as

as dubbing.

I still the economy has something to do with it, more or less

Fuck, that's how Drake blew up. So Far Gone....

dude marketing mixtapes through the internet to get ur self a buzz.

does not mean downloading is ok.

Artist record mixtapes over other ppl beats or cheap beats and release it for free

for marketing. its called low cost marketing. THEY WANT IT TO BE FREE.

then they release the album which cost money and they loose money because of illegall downloading

Rick Ross "Teflon Don" is currently GOLD according to the Recording Industry Association of America who award Gold and Platinum plaques for artists who sell Half-a-mill or more from their releases.

As long as the internet exists there will be illegal downloading. Plus from what I hear if the website is on an out of country server(besides Canada because they're prepping a law as well) these laws do not apply. I am for this though, in the end I think this is the only way to save the music industry. Only time will tell I guess if this has any real impact on sales.

lol Bill will never become law, you can't make stifle technology and creativity.

Downloading isn't any different than dubbing tapes or burning CDs. Downloadin has help people who don't won't to waste 10-13 on sup bullshit like was used to do back in the day. It doesn't have that fuckin much of an impact on sale cuz if your music is good THEY WILL BUY IT!!!!

tupacfan35;1657418 said:
Fuck this unconstitutional bill, that's all it is, tyranny.

usmarin3;1657604 said:
Coming at filesharing networks is like suing the engineers who build roads for traffic crimes. Why are you going after the builders, go after the traffic violators (people who commit illegal file sharing), file sharing software is legal imo, what people chose to do with them is the illegal aspects. Shutting down Piratebay is not gonna stop people from sharing files, you would have to shut down blank cds, dvds, dvr,etc too.

As far as i'm concern, piracy is payback for all the years the record labels ripped off fans putting on 2-3 good songs on a album.

These mfs didn't learn shit from Napster, you spit in the consumers face and they come back 5 times as hard at you.

They worried about Mixtapes but all them workers from 9/11 who caught lung cancer from all that dust cant even get Healthcare...... This country is sooo fuckin ass backwards.... But this only step one in "Censoring the Internet" better use it while u can to learn as much as u want before this shit be like China LOL....

hnic1978;1657614 said:
Nah homie the only thing downloading is fuckin up is that these cats to make some good music or you won't sell. I'm from that era where u paid your 10 dollars only to find out that the best track is the video track. Its just new age dubbing and just like every other genre' of music they doing just fine. The economy has more to do with why record sales are struggling than downloads. Hell when you got 10 dollars and you have to choose between eating or buying the CD. I'm choosin fuck it i gotta eat and i'll DOWNLOAD it later!!

Senator Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, also opposes the bill and vows to keep the bill from passing.

Because senators have the power to put holds on legislation, if Senator Ron Wyden continues to oppose the bill, it is possible COICA will be dead following the end of this congressional season.

Ron Wyden is a trill-ass dude and a progressive libertarian. Go Ron, GO!!! Filibuster!

Swiffness!;1657719 said:
man wtf Hrap. You forget what happened to DJ Drama already? If this shit passes, you're gonna go to Mixtape-Torrent someday and see this:

"It seems to me the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act as written today, is the wrong medicine," Wyden, the chairman of the Finance International Trade, Customs, and Global Competitiveness Subcommittee, said during a hearing on international trade and the digital economy. "Deploying this statute to combat online copyright and infringement seems almost like a bunker buster cluster bomb when really what you need is a precision-guided missile."

usmarin3;1657728 said:
That's what i've been saying, they are not fixing the problem. The software and hardware is still out there to pirate music and movies, who are they going after next, Sony, Toshiba, etc for making burners and blank disc. It's too fucking late now, you cannot fight technology and progress.

I hope all these major labels collapse and their crooked and illegal contracts (imo) go to hell, for years they have been fucking artist and now the shoes have turned. Word to the Cold Crush Brothers and older artist who got fucked out of all their money.

Word. China has gone to amazing lengths to censor the internet and it hasn't fucking worked. Any Chinese computer user with a spoonful of computer skills can easily slip past "The Great Firewall".

The Industry will continue to die, despite their best efforts. CD sales will continue to plummet. And that iTunes money will continue to NOT be enough to sustain, to borrow Malcolm's phrase, "a corrupt, hypocritical system".

Swiffness!;1657808 said:
Mannnn, internet downloading saved Joe Budden's career. Back in 05/06 when he was getting NO love from the radio or even the mixtape circuit, back when Def Jam left dude for dead, it was niggas posting YouSendIt and Rapidshare links to "Dumb Out" and "3 Sides to a Story" on Hip-Hop forums that built up the cult following that allowed him to live comfortably as a independent artist.

The way YOU tell it, niggas wasn't bootlegging albums before the internet. lmao

hnic1978;1657815 said:
I can't make a case for J. Cole but Joe Budden laid an egg with his first album. They said the same about dubbing tapes and burnin CDs. This too will pass just like they will. If you have so much of a problem with this, howcome the person who leaks it NEVER gets in trouble. I'll be damned to believe that NOBODY knows the person who leaked their music. Instead of getting mad at the people who recieve the music how bout goin after the people who makes it possible.

Swiffness!;1657820 said:
IF YOU THINK THIS CENSORSHIP BILL WILL SOMEHOW MAKE IT SO THAT LUPE DOES WAYNE NUMBERS, YOU'RE RETARDED

hnic1978;1657831 said:
Same could be said for 50 Cent who was the king of the shit. DJ Drama Gangsta Grillz whole existence, Not to mention J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, are a slew of artist who have used to it to be relavant.

Swiffness!;1657835 said:
Right? Remember when a album leak was rare? Ever since like 06 *EVERY* album has leaked 2 weeks before the release date, with clockwork precision.
