It's not that big of a difference but I don't believe NASA should be a higher priority than education. Don't really see where the confusion comes from.

Half time? So it would be possible to just take classes at a CC while you are going to a university and they'd be free.

Regardless that's great America can fund bullshit like NASA but when it comes to educating thr masses funding is severly lacking.

CC is just a start hopefully this will create strides to make college more affordable and placing people in debt because of loans.

Some CCs around here are just an extension of HS, basically just 13th and 14th grade.

Others are decent stepping stones to universities or just good trade schools in their own right. It depends on the school and the program.

This has happened already. There is a reason a bachelors degree doesn't really mean shit anymore.

The job market before the recession was flooded with people who have bachelors degrees and couldn't get a decent job that paid well without a masters degree.

Saturate the market with something in this case bachelors degrees and the value of it goes down dramatically. Now you have kids who only was able to go to school with grant and loan money in debt 50-100+K with little chances of getting a good paying job with only a bachelors degree.

College is a fucking scam cause a degree doesn't guarantee you shit.

People get further ahead based on who they know more than they do with a college degree and not knowing a damn person in a position who can look out for them.

There's a bit if truth here but it's not entirely true.

A college degree is what you make of it. There is absolutely nothing in this world that guarantees success but having a college degree is always better than not having one.

Also when it comes to not getting a job, part of that is because recent graduates lack experience in the field for the job they want. I know this is going to sound weird but in Tranformers 3 that dude that interviewed Wickwicky said it beat "you don't want this job, you want the job that comes after this but this is the job you need to do first" paraphrasing of course but the sentiment is clear, you need experience even if it's just experience at that company.

You are correct about people getting ahead based on who they know but you neglected that quite a few people shake the right hands in college. Networking in college is a big leg up, if you look at the number of presidents and executives that belong to the same social clubs and fraternities it puts you in contact with the people you need or should know to leap frog others. You also have professors, advisors, program directors etc that have professional contacts you could use.

the bolded is debatable now considering the cost/sacrifice of time/quality of the education received/major etc.

there are a lot of mofos who would be actually better off right now without their degree, which is the problem

what I'm saying is that because a HS diploma has been devalued due to the shitty quality of public education today, most employers now want people with college degrees for jobs that used to be filled by HS grads

but what is happening is instead of improving HS education so that college isn't looked at as a requirement to get a decent job, mofos are just inflating the number of people going to college................which further increases tuition and increases a labor pool of college educated folks who can't get a job

So you suggest loan forgiveness for those who have already completed college as opposed to what is essentially 2 year loan forgiveness for future college students. Sounds to me like the opposite side of a 2 headed coin. That's selfishness if I've ever seen it.

The only thing devaluing college degrees in the US is the belief that the degree is what gets you the job. i've always been a proponent of going the community college route then transferring to a 4 year. rarely do people going into college know what they wana do right out the gate, stick with it & find a career in that field. graduating from a CC only gives you an associate's (2 year degree) & in most cases you don't even need that to transfer to a 4 year...you just need a certain amount of credits. use this to take some bullshit classes, find out what you have interest in or if you even have interest in college at all, then pay the big state/university money for STEM if that's what you tyna do. *shrug* sound simple to me.

13th or 14th grade? That's some ignorant shit to say. Have you seen what CC can offer? Like I said before people can get training, certified, and employed in them two years. It's plenty of courses where it's more than just another year of math and reading home work.

But the bolded, though. Are you bringing up how you went through the ringer and now you're upset cause others won't have too? Cause that's what it looks like. If that's the case, you gotta let that jealousy go.

That's the price of times changing.

But you do make a good point bout them trying to get that money in other ways possibly. Jacking up tuition and other college shit people pay for. But students are gonna be in debt regardless if they gotta do something that requires more time. If this thing is on the up and up, at the least it'll shave what would be two years off they monthly payments.

And I don't see that huge a problem with people having degrees and no where to work. It mentioned in-demand jobs and if it's anything like the program I went through, only courses with a high demand for graduates will be approved. And it might go according to whats in demand for the region of each state. So not every course is going to get the same treatment. People will get jobs easier and even has assistance from companies that benefit from the bodies.

Come to think of it, it'll probably affect the blue collar level the most and the white collar level the least of the two.

I haven't taken a solid stance on this because I wanted to really think about it.

Now that I have I can say I'm pretty sure this is just politics but if it is real...it won't pass but if it does pass...it's a good thing.

One of the biggest issues all across the country is that people got laid off or fired in droves, many of these people worked in their positions for years and the rug was snatched from under them. So this gives those people a chance to be retrained and become more employable.

Another issue in the United States is the number of unskilled, uneducated people in the labor force. This could ease that problem instantly, understand just because it's FREE doesn't mean people can or will do it. There are more than enough anti-education folks and people with "I don't like school" mentalities to temper the flooding issue.

And finally...it can help with the issue of brain drain in certain communities. In cities, like my own, anytime someone gets a decent education they tend to leave chasing jobs. By making higher education easier to obtain you can attack brain drain directly by putting more people into the workforce who have skills and education even if it's not on the same level as a 4-yr degree.

So it helps with some very real issues in this country.
