Absolutely and it's all for personal gain, I'd say this is in the animal kingdom as well. Playing dead, camouflage, lures (anglerfish), mimicking other species calls/actions, deception etc. Tactical deceit is seen in apes, monkeys, even cephalopods.
But we have a higher level of thinking so we are able to use it more tactically to our advantage.

I am not sure which one it is. I'd like to think it's learned because children don't really lie until age 2, like intentionally trying to deceive you lying, yet it comes so naturally without it readily being taught you want to think it's natural. I mean I do think deep down we are both, good and bad, and all that comes with it and it is part of the human life to go beyond the lesser of the two and always choose good thoughts, actions and words. But I also think humanity is not ready for truth 100% all the way. We don't even like to be honest with ourselves.

Self-preservation is natural. Lying and deceit are usually caused by self-preservation...so yes. That doesn't really mean anything though. Natural or not, wrong is wrong.
