Republicans will shoot this down in a heartbeat.

What's funny is just like Obamacare, this was originally a conservative plan. The Republican States of Tennessee and Georgia already provide this a similar program that's funded by the Lottery.

Democrats be taking some Republicans ideas on the low low

Finally this president does something I can fully support 100%.

You wasn't down with the loan forgiveness\reduction programs, and home buyer\car rebates?

It's gonna be telling who spins free education as a bad thing. Not just free education, but real applicable shit that can have folks making money in a relatively short amount of time. Middle class can boom the most from this.

Louisiana offered a similar program through the labor department. They paid for my CDL course and I got trained for free. I had a friend of mine that didn't take advantage of that and owed $6K for a course that's 1 month long. Like everyone else that attended and didn't know about it.

But the draw backs are that not every career field qualifies for it. It was only for "green jobs", I forget what that meant exactly. Plus the Louisiana Labor Department is WOAT. I hope I never have to do anything with the state ever again.

So I wonder what the details of this are. Hopefully, it's clear and concise. Eliminating that unnecessary red tape and confusion.

Is this program similar to TOPS that Louisiana once had where you can go to 'any' college in the state and they would pay for it, I don't know if they still have that program going..

Half time? So it would be possible to just take classes at a CC while you are going to a university and they'd be free.

Regardless that's great America can fund bullshit like NASA but when it comes to educating thr masses funding is severly lacking.

CC is just a start hopefully this will create strides to make college more affordable and placing people in debt because of loans.

Nigga what??

I say again..Nigga What?!

the issue is what is being taught. CC is hardly a good educational environment. whatever tho

Some CCs around here are just an extension of HS, basically just 13th and 14th grade.

Others are decent stepping stones to universities or just good trade schools in their own right. It depends on the school and the program.

TOPS ... I ain't heard that shit in years. I think that dealt more with high school graduates.

What I'm talking bout ... well, I don't know what it was called. While going through the motions for it I never heard TOPS mentioned, so I can't say for sure. I never dealt or qualified with it to compare either.

I came in off the street, fresh from a lay-off and wanted to try something new. Picked the job they offered training for, took some bullshit remedial test and was in after 30 days.

oh ok

Yea come to think, I think it was for HS students coming out of HS, then of course there were requirements that had to be met..

White people will find ways to say 2 year degree students aren't credible or some bs...believe me they are about to make up some counter measures to go against the peoples best interest

This has happened already. There is a reason a bachelors degree doesn't really mean shit anymore.

The job market before the recession was flooded with people who have bachelors degrees and couldn't get a decent job that paid well without a masters degree.

Saturate the market with something in this case bachelors degrees and the value of it goes down dramatically. Now you have kids who only was able to go to school with grant and loan money in debt 50-100+K with little chances of getting a good paying job with only a bachelors degree.

College is a fucking scam cause a degree doesn't guarantee you shit.

People get further ahead based on who they know more than they do with a college degree and not knowing a damn person in a position who can look out for them.

Just how I see it as a person who has a college degree.

There's a bit if truth here but it's not entirely true.

A college degree is what you make of it. There is absolutely nothing in this world that guarantees success but having a college degree is always better than not having one.

Also when it comes to not getting a job, part of that is because recent graduates lack experience in the field for the job they want. I know this is going to sound weird but in Tranformers 3 that dude that interviewed Wickwicky said it beat "you don't want this job, you want the job that comes after this but this is the job you need to do first" paraphrasing of course but the sentiment is clear, you need experience even if it's just experience at that company.

You are correct about people getting ahead based on who they know but you neglected that quite a few people shake the right hands in college. Networking in college is a big leg up, if you look at the number of presidents and executives that belong to the same social clubs and fraternities it puts you in contact with the people you need or should know to leap frog others. You also have professors, advisors, program directors etc that have professional contacts you could use.

You have to admit that "go to college, get an education" is drilled into young peoples heads like that is all they have to do to get ahead. Like that will automatically get them a good job. We may know that is not the case but a lot the kids being drilled that don't know that because that is not part of the narrative being told to them. So once they get that piece of paper after getting loans out the ass to pay for this they are met with a harsh reality that just going to school will get you a good job is a fucking lie.

Rich and wealthy kids don't need to go to college to get executive jobs because who of their parents are or who they know. So my point still stands who you know holds a whole lot more weight than any degree a person can get. George W. Bush is a prime example of this even though college was just part of him playing a game to look the part but him and his brothers fututre was set without college. Look at Paris Hilton that bitch herself ain't worth shit but she is a fucking billionaire with access to anything she wants because of who her family is. What job(we know she don't need a job) could a college degree get her that she couldn't just make a phone call and get that same job?

For people who don't have a people network yes you right not having experience plays a huge roll in a person not getting a job whether they went to college or not. I personally am in that situation having a nice paying job but it has absolutely nothing to do with what I went to school for. Every person that offers me a job based on what I went to school for wants me to take a pay cut because I don't have any experience. So I am living that part of it.
