Stationed in San Diego, just got orders in Hawaii for sea duty at a VP Squadron.

Hit my 2 year mark in June.

I was stationed in San Diego on North Island. I hated that place, boring as fuck but nice scenery. Crossing tha Coranado Bay bridge had me shook at first. And if you did'nt have wheels that sucked as well. But we used to party on the marine base, man I copped plenty chics out of there. But I started out in the ship yard in Philly then we went around the horn to get to San Diego. My homeboy been in Hawaii for 4 years now. Pearl Harbor, been there like 5 x's

Yea, San Diego is kinda of a let down, it's a good spot for couples I guess, lot of places to go out to eat and shit but as far as clubs and shit ill pass. And yea Im definitely looking forward to Hawaii, how ya boy like it out there?

I haven't been back to San Diego since I got out in 1995. And the clubs was wack as shit. I stayed in the black hood tho around Imperial Blvd and we used to rent those hotels on E Street down in Chula Vista

Anyone enrolled in or know about Tricare dental program? I got promoted at my civilian job but don't have as good of benefits package anymore and figure enrolling in the guard's dental program will cut costs outta my civilian (i.e. BIGGER) paycheck....is it worth it or a lot of bullshit?

to my understanding, only 12 bucks comes out my check tricare dental, and thats with a dependent. i think having it and being guard would most likely benefit you because a lot places in the states accept it, unlike myself where only a few in germany accept it.

I will be switching mine in two months. I love Kaiser. It is a one stop shop, but the cost is crazy. Actually I will be doing the split thing and dotwo dental plans so I can get braces.

Slow, directly vertical takeoff makes them prone to damage from enemy gunfire and because it all depends on a single rotor for propulsion, its a wrap if that rotor is damaged or malfunctions, whereas a plane can limp for a landing because they often have more than one engine.

any of y'all in the air force? i've been wanting to join but i always said i was gonna wait til i graduated so i could go in & get that officer paper. but as of right now school just feels like a chore & i'm thinkin about joining sooner rather than later.

how different is being an officer (besides the pay) than a regular enlisted person in terms of opportunities & overall experience?

As far as being an officer, you would be host to a whole different life and set of responsibilities than enlisted. As a butterbar (2nd LT.) your really just a glorified coffee maker and will mostly be caught up in paperwork shuffles and learning under the field grade officers/nco's and senior enlisted. Its not until you make Captain is when you would hold a job title of high leadership and responsibility within your squadron/element/flight and after that you better hope you are in a in demand career field cuz its a bitch making Major, LTC. and Col. and you'll have to take on shitty duties, details, (such as being a commander in aetc which sucks) and/or cross over to in demand career fields to keep getting promoted (officers can't coast in a slot/rank as long as enlisted can and are expected to take on any position of leadership that comes their way).

And most importantly, as an officer there is the big deal made about holding yourself to a higher standard and always being professional....

But yo ima tell you right now, come in as an officer because its very difficult to finish school as active enlisted. And also come in with an in demand degree like engineering, medical, IT, things of that nature.

I went in at 22 and to an extent....I don't wish i came in as an officer. If I had waited till I got a degree, who knows what the Air Force would've been looking like (I got in during the tail end of the surge i.e. the best time to get in) so getting would've been a lot harder. Also, while coming in as officer is cool and all, I've learned a lot as an enlisted and I feel there's a greater sense of respect, knowledge, experience, and leadership when you have both enlisted and officer time.

Coming in with a degree and not commissioning helps you to make rank faster, yes. In addition to meeting time and grade/service, completing your PME, and scoring high enough on the SKT's and PT, EPR's and awards and decorations, college credit also counts toward getting promoted in the ever competitive Air Force.

The reason why i'd advise you to come in as an officer is if your dead serious about Active duty. Im air guard so I have enough time to get my degree. Active enlisted don't either have the time or money so its nigh impossible to finish while active.
