Me and that shit is hard. I did logistics and procurement. I am now being able to get some interviews but only after getting my MBA. Everything require a cert of some kind.

so is it just the way the civilian work force is (everything needing a degree or some type of certification) why it's so hard for ex-military folk to get jobs?

In the military, niggas will gas you up saying that all these certs/job skills and knowledge your obtaining will cross over into the civilian world....But thats only half the story...the shit you learn in the military is either basic level skills/knowledge foundation over in civilian world or is too specific.

For example, The AF divides the respective systems of the aircraft into separate job fields (i for example work fuel systems, my brother for example works engines in active duty). Sounds great until you realize that if you want to find work over in civilian life, you need to know how to work on the ENTIRE aircraft to be an attractive prospect (companies can't afford to have as huge a workforce as the AF so instead of having 5 separate career fields to fix one plane, just have 1 guy know how to do it all).

This is why Crew Chiefs (who have general knowledge of all the systems of a plane) and E&E/Power Plant guys (the hardest maintenance job to learn, period) typically have the best luck with finding jobs after their service, maintenance wise at least.

not really..........especially in Federal Service

the problem with Federal service is that they purposely discriminate against enlisted folks because of the culture of the organization

you'll find that many civil service jobs are run based on an informal ranking system SMH

Ive heard that before. Really right now its bad for vets. A huge number of people have gotten out/are getting out/ are getting kicked out and we're already in a bad time for jobs. Its not even just enlisted either. My best friends pops is a retired Major, was highly decorated and respected while he was in, did all 3 (warrant, enlisted, and commissioned) and he can't find a job that pays him what he should earn. ITs a mix of hate (who's gonna hire someone more qualified than they are?), politics (kissing the right ass when its time for you to get out) and prolly some racism (he's a rican..yet these white officers aren't having no prob. getting a job after their time served)

I guess i can only speak from the AF side brah, particularly maintenance...cuz you really have to grind while your in to get a good wage when you get out. My shop chief is constantly stressing for us to get our A&P License (civilian cert to work on all systems of the aircraft) cuz he knows that maintenance gets screwed over when we get out.

well actually it's a violation of Title V for civil service to discriminate against you because of your military service

I'm actually dealing with a case like this now

I'm considering creating an organization to help Vets with issues like this cause civil service is a dirty game

it's an officer wives click

and the only way you get in is if you already know the manager that is hiring

and unfortunately for all taxpayers, we get screwed because cronies are getting those jobs vs people who are really qualified

The bolded, in a nutshell is whats happening here in KY.

The Army's HRC moved here from VA and brought an assload of civilian jobs...but you gotta be a cocksucker to get in.

My boys dad had a fucking recommendation (on top of his prestigious record of service) from a Lt.Col who worked at the Pentagon and had a date to start and everything....but the phone calls stopped coming right when he was about to start....politics mane...

yeah it's def more to that story than you probably know

but the whole issue is endemic across civil service

the whole process is flawed and encourages cronyism and incompetence

if the average person found out exactly what happens behind closed doors there would riots at federal facilities

it's a lot of money going thru these civil services goons' fingers LOL

This reminds me, if your a vet and your a recent grad or will graduate in the next 4 years within the IT field, OPM is gaurunteeing you a job, . Couple programs out there one if scholahips for service, another is a program started by obama you graduate you into get a gov job non competative at gs 5 and gs 7 for those who grad with honors.

The program goes like this

If your a vet and you just graduated or will graduate in 4 years with a degree in the IT field, right now you are guaranteed a job within the goverment if you use the program opm started last year.

This applies to paided internships too.

I will look through my old emails and drop some info since opm took down the multiple pages and are redoing the pages cause now all is up is a damn pdf that says comming soon.

You can thank obama for pushing for these 2 programs, remember he was trying to get more vets in the goverment especially college grads

This was only one i can find i know others exist they change the website too much

@ all the Vets

what ya'll think about the issue of so many sexual assaults in the military

is it as bad as people claim?

mofos are saying a woman is more likely to get raped by a battlebuddy than die in combat in the military these days

thoughts?

I PERSONALLY have never known anyone to have gone through it but I can believe it.

Niggas are young and dumb joining the military. Mix that with getting completely fucked up on Fridays and weekends and the overall macho atmosphere of the military...yeah i can believe it.

Shit even the commissioned side is apparently pretty bad. The AF academy has been having a problem with sexual assault for like twenty years now.

Lots of lames join, alcohol...they take the flirting shit to heart tada!

Also ive seen where its the loose hoe and dudes try her when she drunk and things end up ugly.

I worked around alot of females some are reckless..some suprising aint whores but its mostly where the female count is low.

I look at your first four years in like college. Alot of fucking going on. Then when she turns 22 she realize her count to high and lay low but all niggas know is she was the one fucking everything.

Truth be told they need to teach that class,"How not to rape." to some of these young cats. Cause they put themselves in situations like that. I myself almost took the pussy from several broads but my better judgement took over. Save me from some serious NJP. That is why to this day I dont fuck with drunk chicks or known slores (slutty whores). There are more cases on there heads then a old .38 in the hood.

no disrespect...

but many military women are sluts and whores...they r also damaged goods... they r quick to use their sexuality as a means to obtain something (popularity, friendship, money, etc)... when they become scorned they will also cry rape...

I have seen it first hand... bitches begging for trains, then getting upset and claiming they were assaulted...

that being said, sexual assault is not a joke and should be taken seriously... and yes there are legitimate cases of sexual assault in the military, i just think its not as bad as it may appear...

Yo Army nigs I got a question

Do yall niggas have follow on training for your career field after AIT?

For example, in the AF we have our 3 level job certification that we attain after our AIT (called Tech School) then we subsequently are required to get our 5,7,and 9 level certifications in our career field if we want to keep getting promoted in the same career field. These certs are measures of our skills, knowledge, and supervisory responsibilites of our career field.

But i've never heard of the Army having or requiring upgrade training in your MOS. Which granted isn't a bad thing because should that be the case, y'all niggas can jump career fields and isn't that big an issue, whereas in the AF if you leave a career field, you have to start all over again in order to be a proficient leader in your career field.

Just wondering....

props for this real ass post

I think about the validity of the number of incidences reported as well...................cause it's true

there are a lot of loose slores in the military

but I will admit that there are a lot of thirsty drunk aggressive mofos in barracks and on deployments

I worked a little while in a JAG office one time and I was shocked at some of the cases with sexual assaults.............even chaplains be raping chicks in the military SMH

nah............the AF is more career oriented

ya'll still take skill tests for your MOS

most Army MOSs just require you to graduate from AIT..............and then you get MOS specific in your BNCOC II and ANCOC courses

and some MOSs have course you can take to supplement your training, but only a few MOSs actually do it

the Army is mostly about warfighting especially now, so everything is focused on leadership oriented courses

and CTT (warrior task) training
