You might be the first officer ive seen post here. Yo question how is OTS? Im thinking I wanna commission when i graduate but I wanna do so thru the Guard (AMS instead of OTS but they're nearly identical cept AMS is wayyyy shorter)...

Anybody here canadian, in the Canadian military??? I'm seriously considering enlisting, I've always wanted to be in the Army (well air force really but I ain't got the math to be a fighter pilot and that's bout the only thing I would want to do) infantry specifically... I've always said Reg force is the way to go but I got a

2 year old and wifey kinda against it, so I figure I'll join the Reserves and that way if I do want to do a tour somewhere its always an Option....

Ayo Caddo, what's your rate?

SK bruh!!!! Well now LS.

You are getting up there bruh! we have discussed this plenty of times. The Meridian days!!!!!!!!!

what are yalls opinions about enlisting in the national guard these days?

active duty wont take me but the guard is welcoming me with open arms and the tuition assistance and reserve gi bill are something i could really use right now to better myself.

i dont know much about the guard, i know it can only help tho if you have an agenda...let the govt pay for school, I dont know if its the guard or reserve that do training like everyweekend in a month but that cant be that bad. Although Im sure Guard doesnt get 100% benefits in some initiatives but some is better than none. Do that shit. Just pick a branch.

@DaCaliKing

If your joining the military for school and want a degree, JOIN THE GUARD. Do not let the AD recruiters sweet talk you, tis hard as shit to complete a degree program on active.

I'm Air Guard so thats really the only thing I can say. But keep in mind that the Army Guard can deploy somewhat often. Also I dont know about the Army Guard, but in the Air Guard its hard as shit to jump onto Active Duty, so IF that is true of the army guard, you gotta decide if you want a career or go to college.

Finally try and get a job with a bonus and kicker (but nothing crazy like infantry or whatever).

LOL I know man. The years flew by at a lightning pace.

The thing about the reserves is make sure you qualify for the college fund and tuition assistance.

For the Navy Reserve you have to be activated for 120 days consecutive. SO that means, to get them to pay for your classes, you have to be called up for at least 4 months. Most college students cant stay out that long. But there are ways around that.

1. Find out if the school you want to attend take credits from an online school. That way you can continue your education while being deployed. Most online classes are 8-10 weeks.

2. Make arrangement considering you will training hard for the first couple of months. Dont schedule classes until you know you will be settled down for at least 3 months. That means you will not be going spot to spot for various reasons.

3. Have all financial paperwork submitted before registering for class. You might not get approved.

4. Have all your registeration paperwork ready before you send in financial paperwork. You might get apporved but there is a short window to apply. (I had one where I had to get approved within 12 hours or no tuition assistance.)

And finally............

5. Check your state to see if they have financial assistance for military personnel. Ga has a program for reservist. It has the same requirements as the reserves does. Read it thoroughly and call the helpdesk for clarification. Rather be safe than sorry.
