The Original Point still stands hip hop is the only genre that doesn't revere its Old School artists the god damned Rolling Stones are still selling out stadiums and it's not just their old fans it's their old fans kids and their kids you will never find that in a old school hip hop artist
Rolling Stones made
timeless music....Melle Mel didn't...there's a difference
Melle Mel penned 'The Message' if I'm not mistaken. So now we're saying that song ain't timeless?
Well I would expect that logic from some suburban white kid...
Funny I came upon this thread after watching a brilliant HipHop origins documentary a couple days ago on Netflix
The message is one song... compare that to one of the greatest rock n roll bands of all time
Go back to Netflix bro
All the Rolling Stones did is covers of songs by Black musicians. Grandmaster Flash and The Furious 5 invented their own style of music.
There's really no comparison.
You are retarded...legit retarded
LOL you're white so you wouldn't know rock music was originally a Black art form... from Eric Clapton to Elvis to The Stones, they were all inspired by the Blues.
All their back up singers were/are Black
That is meaningless in the argument...keep up
Some white guy with a peach basket invented basketball...so I guess jordan and lebron couldn't be better than him at basketball....that's basically what your saying which is just ignorance
Whoever invented the first telephone obviously made a better product that the iPhone because it was original right?
If the furious 5 invented something and it wasn't very good...then ppl took it and improved on it...that's what happened....I'll take some classic rock n roll over early hip hop...I've said that before though...could of used hendrix or sly and the family stone as an example too
Well if we looked at James Naismith's statistics or video footage and compared him to Michael Jordan it would be easy to determine who's the better player.
Likewise if you play The Message next to ANY rap song that's ever been recorded I'm sure everybody on the IC would agree that The Message can't be outdone. Its a perfect song and represents what life in the inner city was like in 1982 and applies to 2016.
As far as The Rolling Stones are concerned, they played Black music but didn't create anything new. They didn't bring anything new to the table. Its been documented and proven that Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 invented Hip Hop as we know it and The Message charted on the Billboard charts. Also Melle Mel appeared on Chaka Khan's I Feel For You which won the grammy for best R&B song in 1984. So in addition to creating Hip Hop, they were recognized by their peers as the best.
The Rolling Stones may have had hits and won awards but they didn't create anything.
