The Original Point still stands hip hop is the only genre that doesn't revere its Old School artists the god damned Rolling Stones are still selling out stadiums and it's not just their old fans it's their old fans kids and their kids you will never find that in a old school hip hop artist

Just ran across 5grand's selfie.

It depends on how old you are talking about old hip hop is usually just to unsophisticated unformed and simple.... however by the time the so-called Golden Era came around the music became much more complex , I can listen to that rakim, g-rap, public enemy era music.

funny enough I can't listen to the new Mumble rap because it's too unsophisticated even more so than the real old school music.

Hip hop in 80s is similar to Rnb in the 60s or 50# yes we respect it and listen to it, but folks prefer hip hop in the 90s like Rnb in the 70s because it was better classic material.

So to answer op answer I'll bump Aquemni, 36 Chambers, Chronic, Reasonable Doubt compared to Radio, Kings of Rock, etc

Btw I'm 24 and know my music history

My reply from a younger guy (22yrs old) was that they "used to many words back then". This generation wants to be spoon-fed & they hate it when you make them think.

Them dudes in the YouTube comments be on Kurtis Blow videos talkin about

"I was born in 1999 but Kurtis Blow is real Hip-Hop. I listen to the Treacherous 3 and Kool Moe Dee. Fuck gay Drake and skinny jeans"

Lmao the accuracy. But as far as the thread the flow, delivery, and cadence is hard to listen to. Only a few guys from that Era I can bump

So let me get this straight; You'd rather listen to The Rolling Stones over Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5?

My point exactly.

It was before my time. I listen to what I'm most familiar with. 90s Hip hop. I've heard all the old school stuff, but the 90s is where I'm from and those rappers to me perfected the craft the original groups started.

I still listen to music that was before me, I just prefer 90s hip hop for the most part.

Melle Mel penned 'The Message' if I'm not mistaken. So now we're saying that song ain't timeless?

Well I would expect that logic from some suburban white kid...

Funny I came upon this thread after watching a brilliant HipHop origins documentary a couple days ago on Netflix

Go back to Netflix bro
