lol Nobody disowning Spike. The only people mad at him are people in Chicago, and most of those people are young cats that weren't Spike Lee fans to begin with.

But that doesent give Spike the right to exploit that city and create misrepresentative, dystopian fiction that does nothing but exacerbate the situation.
That is what many Chicago natives who are giving back and actively working in the community, have said that Spike has done.
Until I see the flick, I have to defer to their judgement and characterization of the film...

There seems to be different reasons why different people don't like the film. One reason the youth don't like the film, is because they expected it to be closer to the average hood flick like boys in the hood or a colors. They wanted to see more gutter stuff or street culture that is relevant to Chicago. I don't think they are really concerned with a message or solution. They just wanted to be entertained by seeing niggas do nigga stuff. Another argument from older critic's is that the movie portray's too many Jew based hollywood stereo types from blaxploitation flicks. Im their opinion the black women are displayed like hoes. The only representation of black males are of thugs or sex starved old men, while the only positive or forward thinking male is the white priest., who plays an important part in the film. They claim that he represents the white hero placed in black films about the struggle. One could also argue that Jackson's character is through back to an old school pimp.
Ive seen the film myself and I enjoyed it, but some of the critiques I have heard about the film have made me think. No matter how the film would have came out. I don't think no one would have been satisfied. I think the best option would have would have just to make a documentary or tragedy flick. One disagreement I did have with the film is the pushing for gun restriction. Government restriction won't make that much of a difference. When it comes to crime there are always different routes. In my opinion the reasons for so much gun violence stem's from home. One example would be black males who grow up without a father. Since they they have fathers the only way they can feel masculine is if they display super aggression. The gang and gun culture is a way for some males to feel like men. So when a youth holds a pistol it is symbolic of a phallic symbol.
I don't think sex is necessarily the solution , but it can be apart of the solution. The issue of black genocide is relevant to all ghetto's in america and the cause is the same. In my opinion the solution starts with the family. When the family is broken up chaos ensues. If black males have limited access to resources chaos ensues in the home. The black woman begins to loose respect for her man, so her man might go into crime in order to create something. Unfortunately the consequences of crime lead to prison, genocide etc Then a new generation is born into a dysfunctional environment and the cycle continues. To say that sex is the basis for the aggression would be looking at the situation from a Freudian perspective.

What is another method of giving people a message without being to preachy? Satire is like food you take with medicine. If you went to the average black person on the street and told them about themselves or something related about consciousness they will either ignore you , get angry, or say something ignorant, however if the message is embedded in something which will catch the peoples attention then you will have better results . All black people aren't ready for straight criticism. If you hold a mirror(metaphorically) up to someone and tell them what they should do even if its the truth or its for their own good how would the average person react?
