I guess you niggas don't like the boondocks because that is satire too

True that...which is why I don't think the issue is the movie being satirical.

Idk guess I gotta see it to really judge but you applyin some wacky ass concept to somethin that's STILL very real dnt seem too genuine if you not atleast somewhat focusin on the whole scope of the issues in Chicago. What's the end goal?

^^Didnt see the movie

im confused by what rhymefest is mad about?

it seems like chicagoans dont understand satire

Kids are being killed daily.

Whats satirical about that

how does it being a satire that take away from the social commentary or make light of the situation in chicago ?

not every movie has to have the look or feel of a city of god, boyz in the hood or the wire.

Definition (google)

Satire is a genre of literature, and sometimes graphic and performing arts, in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government or society itself, into improvement.

Haven't seen the movie, so I'm just going off of what Iv'e been hearing.

Basically, I don't think people really have a problem with Spike doing a satire.

The problem is with it being "bad" satire.

Basically, if the satirical context had resulted in a better movie.....there wouldn't be as much criticism directed his way.

Even tho you havent seen it, you're right

But THATS A COMPLETELY SEPARATE ARGUMENT

I give him an A for effort

D for execution

We are arguing the former. His heart was in the right place

Took the words right out of my mouth but alot of people thought it was funny.. but didnt really truly get it.. i thought i twas just Cacs... but some niggas just can't see

waiting until i see the movie to judge

spike's rant against those criticizing the movie without seeing it was etherous

yet the ironic part is he did the same thing before django came out

There's something to be said about timing, and elements of hype. Compton was a good album that i still sit with, but as a dr dre fan, i wanted the chronic 3, a detox album that was unapologetic in its west coastness.

We knew a chicago movie was coming because that situation needs awareness brought to it. Everything in the universe was screaming for a raw, long, immersive native driven drama that made me understand chicago's hood culture better, and their twist on the problems we face. John singleton does this very well for cali. In a vacuum its a good movie, but i understand where niggas comin from if they salty.

Niggas wanted detox, and they got compton, but compton is still slick.

Yea I think some ppl were looking for another when the "When the levees broke" from spike

Folks be more mad about shit like this than the actual thing that's happening smh. Stop the fucking violence man! The damage to Chicago will not be done by Spike Lee, it's been done by the "savages" and the dudes who get record deals glorifying that shit.

a person from the streets of chicago's opinion is irrelevant to a movie about the streets of chicago? It's the fuck ups of the lil niggas that are driving the violence which inspired the movie so why not try to figure out what they're thinking? That's logic in your world?

He is 21 years old.

I think the problem comes in with how the film was marketed when it was first thrown out there. He called it Chiraq. He went around saying he wanted to bring light to the situation there in the city. He got a lot of support for the project for that and had the people in Chicago believing in the project. Then he releases something that really doesn't have anything to do with Chicago based on what Rhymefest said. Honestly, I think Rhymefest had it right. Spike could have filmed it in Chicago, but he probably should have just kept it as being some generic city and not try to promote it the way he did.

Full disclosure - Ive never been to Chicago and I haven't seen the movie..

But I have seen the trailer and heard reactions and reviews such as this one. I also know the hurt that city is going through

To me it's incredibly disrespectful and disengenous to make a satire, of all things, about the devastation being experienced in that area.

I mean - the name itself is inflammatory.

It seems to be the epitome of gross generalization to no positive end aside from money changing hands ..

All men in the Chi are savages?

All a woman has to offer is her body?

Almost amazed that this got funding

With knowing the definition of satire you still feel this way about the movie

Full Definition of satire

a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn

trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly

If so why?

In my opinion some things are to raw and tragic to be exposed to satirical treatment.

Immediately after 9/11 would you want to see a satire of those events?

Would you be ok if whites crates a satire of how blacks invite police brutality and then "complain" about it afterwards?

death and gang culture in chicago is not a recent thing though is it.

Straw man...

If you haven noticed, Chicago crime has escalated recently.

I used the example of 9/11 to illustrate the gravity of the point.

Do you think there would be a favorable reaction if a satire on 9/11 was done today?

TOLD YA'LL

i just made it to 2min, but he said 2x he thought it was going to be a documentary

nigs gon nig

Even saying Spike is in the wrong somewhat. I don't buy some of the complaints. You got cats out there responsible for the bullshit talking about they thought Spike was going to make a movie that was going to help the city. You know what would help the city? If ya'll would stop shooting people. I know it's not that simple, but it is dumb for the people that are behind the madness to blame Spike because he's not fixing the madness.
