O’Reilly Settled $32 Million Sexual Harassment Claim Month Before Signing Fox News Contract

Earlier this year, conservative TV host Bill O’Reilly was ousted from Fox News following a sexual harassment scandal. Following reports that he had paid out millions of dollars to settle multiple allegations of sexual harassment, O’Reilly was pushed out from the network that he had made home for over 20 years, during which time he had become the biggest star in cable news.

According to a new report by the New York Times, a month prior to O’Reilly signing a new contract extension with Fox News that would pay him $25 million annually for four years, he reached a $32 million agreement with a network analyst to settle sexual harassment allegations. And it appears the network was aware of that deal when O’Reilly signed his contract.

Although the deal has not been previously made public, the network’s parent company, 21st Century Fox, acknowledges that it was aware of the woman’s complaints about Mr. O’Reilly. They included allegations of repeated harassment, a nonconsensual sexual relationship and the sending of gay pornography and other sexually explicit material to her, according to the people briefed on the matter.

Per this latest piece, Fox News apparently tried to contain this story and stand by O’Reilly despite this coming to a head just months after Roger Ailes was pushed out as chief of the network over his long history of sexual harassment and misconduct. It was during this time that Megyn Kelly had decided to leave Fox News, so it appears the Murdochs wanted to retain their biggest star and reliable ratings machine.

Of course, it would be in April when the NYT came out with their bombshell report highlighting five settlements O’Reilly had reached over sexual harassment claims. It would be that report that would lead to O’Reilly’s departure from Fox News. However, prior to his being fired and after the Times report hit, O’Reilly warned the Murdochs that details of the January settlement would likely come out.

The settlement was made with Lis Wiehl, who worked as an analyst on Fox News for 15 years and appeared frequently on O’Reilly’s program. In a statement on the settlement, 21st Century Fox described it as a “personal issue between the two of them.”

O’Reilly’s Spox: ‘Once Again, The New York Times Has Maliciously Smeared Bill O’Reilly’

Following today’s bombshell report by the New York Times detailing a $32 million deal former Fox News star Bill O’Reilly made to settle a sexual harassment allegation back in January, O’Reilly’s spokeseperson Mark Fabiani released a statement on behalf of the ex-O’Reilly Factor host.

In the statement, Fabiani writes that the Times has misrepresented the situation and didn’t include the sworn affidavit that accuser Lis Wiehl signed:

Once again, The New York Times has maliciously smeared Bill O’Reilly, this time even failing to print a sworn affidavit from his former lawyer, Lis Wiehl, repudiating all allegations against Bill O’Reilly. The Times ignored that evidence, sworn under oath, and chose to rely on unsubstantiated allegations, anonymous sources and incomplete leaked or stolen documents.

Fabiani also bragged about the “record breaking” contract that O’Reilly signed in February of this year, a month after he settled with Wiehl, while adding that April’s blockbuster by the Times that reported on O’Reilly’s other sexual harassment allegations included “inaccurate settlement figures.”

The affidavit that Fabiani sent that was signed by Wiehl states that she resolved her issues with O’Reilly following a draft complaint filed by her counsel, and would no longer make the allegations or complaints contained in the draft.

$32 million for "alleged" ?

Hilarious. My dude said his investigative team has exposed the lies. So that mean he paid $32 million for something that coulda easily been exposed as a lie.

He's not going to jail. He paid his way out of his troubles. The money probably didn't even come out of his own pocket. Weinstein's so called punishment was rehab and a public airing of all the hot women he's had sex with. That will teach him, right? But let a rich black man get the finger pointed at him with no proof to back it up? Arrest, trials and finally imprisonment for the rest of his life.

Report: O’Reilly In Talks With Conservative Broadcaster Sinclair

Sinclair Broadcast Group is continuing talks with former Fox News star host Bill O’Reilly despite news that the former host struck a $32 million settlement agreement related to accusations of sexual harassment, NBC News reported Wednesday.

NBC News reported, citing two unnamed sources familiar with negotiations between O’Reilly and Sinclair, that O’Reilly has been negotiating for a position at the conservative media company.

O’Reilly left Fox News in April amid accusations of sexual harassment. The New York Times reported in April that at least five women took a total of $13 million in settlements from O’Reilly or 21st Century Fox related to allegations of such misconduct.

On Saturday, the New York Times reported that O’Reilly in January struck a $32 million settlement agreement with former Fox News legal analyst Lis Wiehl over allegations “of repeated harassment, a nonconsensual sexual relationship and the sending of gay pornography and other sexually explicit material” to Wiehl.

According to NBC News, one source said that Sinclair and O’Reilly “took a pause” but the allegations against the former Fox host “didn’t really change anything for them.”

One source said, according to the report, that O’Reilly and the conservative broadcasting company are “about midway” through their talks.

“They want to do something anti-CNN, anti-MSNBC,” one source told NBC News.

Sinclair in May denied that the network was courting O’Reilly or Fox News anchor Sean Hannity. The company did not respond to NBC News’ requests for comment about any negotiations with O’Reilly.

Sinclair is one of the few networks, along with Fox News, that has not come under attack by President Donald Trump, who often criticizes CNN and NBC News.

Politico in December 2016 reported that Trump’s campaign struck a deal with Sinclair to exchange access for uncritical coverage. Affiliate station WJLA in February was one of the few outlets Trump called on during a series of press conferences where he exclusively took questions from conservative news outlets, and in April, Sinclair announced it had hired former White House aide Boris Epshteyn.

good and I expect more are going to be exposed like this in the coming years. Social media lets people really make noise about people so there are few places left to hide.

He grew up in one of the best / first suburban areas of it's time. The underwriters colluded that as long as no blacks we're allowed to live in the subdivision, they would underwrite their home loan 4 pennies literally! That was the rule! Showed his brick child hood home and everything. Definition of privelage. Some1 needs 2 splash that on his ass during a debate.

Woman Reportedly Sues Bill O’Reilly and Fox News Over Harassment Settlement

A woman who accused Bill O’Reilly of harassment and settled the claim with the former anchor and Fox News is now suing the network, according to the New York Times.

Per the Times:

A woman who reached a settlement with Bill O’Reilly over harassment allegations sued Mr. O’Reilly and Fox News on Monday for defamation and breach of contract, saying that public statements he and the network made violated the settlement and portrayed her as a liar and politically motivated extortionist.

Rachel Witlieb Bernstein, one of the many women that settled harassment claims with Fox News’s former primetime titan, was a junior producer at the network when she claimed O’Reilly harassed her — and settled in 2002 for an undisclosed sum. Though a number of the harassment claims leveled against O’Reilly were sexual, Bernstein’s did not include sexual harassment.

O’Reilly has repeatedly denied the harassment allegations made against him, arguing they are part of a conspiracy to take him down.

Times reporter Emily Steel, who has reportedly extensively on the O’Reilly accusations, including Bernstein’s, revealed some interesting quotes from her lawsuit:

“In fact, Mr. O’Reilly is the liar,” states the lawsuit, which was filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. “He mistreated Ms. Bernstein. She was forced out of her job at Fox News and paid a settlement because of his mistreatment.”

Two of Bill O’Reilly’s Sexual Harassment Accusers Suing Him, Fox News for Defamation

Two of Bill O’Reilly‘s sexual harassment accusers have come together to sue him and Fox News for slandering them as politically-motivated liars.

New York Times reports that former Fox Newsers Rebecca Gomez Diamond and Andrea Macros have joined a defamation and breach of contract lawsuit filed by their colleague Rachel Witlieb Bernstein. The three women are challenging O’Reilly and the network over statements where they were depicted as “liars, political operatives and extortionists.”

“They are tired of being smeared with lies by a bully who thinks that his victims are afraid to answer to them,” said Nancy Erika Smith, a legal representative for the three women. “They are standing up for the truth, joining the many voices of brave women who are no longer tolerating abuse or being silenced.”

O’Reilly previously paid settlements to Diamond and Macros after they accused him of harassment earlier this year. The two were among several women who have made claims against O’Reilly, which resulted in his ouster from Fox News.

Since his firing, O’Reilly has insisted that the allegations were a political smear campaign, and he would fight back against the liberal media for blowing up the scandal. In recent months, O’Reilly’s ouster received new attention due to the revelations that his old Fox contract protected him from sexual harassment accusations, and that he settled with one of his accusers for $32 million.
