Usually, I'm just a fan of the music. I'm terrible in understanding the business side of game. I'm trying to understand how companies like Samsung are going to help other artists? Do they have to be already established like Jay Z to get a blockbuster deal like that? How can rappers have full creative control when companies like Reebok can fire Rick Ross for misrepresenting them because of his lyrics? I don't know maybe I'm asking the wrong questions? Help me understand yo

IMO Samsung are not thinking about helping the artist, they are trying to please their consumer with extras like the app and the early album release...from what I gather, the deal is for access to exclusive content for the whole Roc Nation roster for Samsung users...the ultimate goal is to entice iPhone users to use Samsung. A marketing ploy.

Jay Z fits the bill since him and most of his artists are successful. They have the means to tour and promote with the backing of Live Nation.

Its like people who opt for the HTC because it has Beats Audio incorporated. Will appeal to the music lover, DJs etc...

Now, die hard Jay fans might pick the Samsung when it's time to renew their contract instead of getting the iPhone/smartphone.

In regards to endorsement deals, I'm surprised rappers don't have contracts written up that allow them freedom of speech via their artistic endeavours. After all, the reason Reebok signed Ross was because he was a popular rapper. I personally would have that written in to any contract signed, within reason. That being said, rappers do have to think about how certain lyrics are going to be interpreted.

Totally agree with the bolded but how does that fit in with new and upcoming rappers that's trying to get on? Most are saying that Jay Z is setting new rules in the game and that record companies will no longer be needed. Lets say record companies are obsolete and the only way to get on is with endorsement deals. I don't think these name brand companies will give these new rappers that kind of privilege Jay Z has. They will become the new A&R's and music moguls or whatever and dictate what you can say on your album.

Fam I don't get where all this talk of this deal changing the music industry is coming from....Jay has not signed an album distribution deal with Samsung.

I explained what I thought the deal was, that does not give Samsung any say in the finished product. They just get exclusive access to this product and future Roc Nation products, which doesn't just include music.

Jay is still relying on people buying this product for recognised moved units. Sound scan confirmed that those milli sales don't count.

To me this deal is mainly about promotion. Samsung is WW, it's genius promotion, right now...This deal may not work in 2 years time...or, many artist could go this route if the endorsements are on the table.

The whole "Magna Carta" thing to me is kind of saying that in this day and age you can go another route, in terms of how you get your music to the people. This album came about to coincide with this deal, which was probably in the works before confirmation of a new Jay album.

I also believe that Jay could also say what he wanted, and not lose this deal. But of course, Jay to seasoned to make a mistake like that.

Since '96. Hov still top of the game. Through the gangster rap, through the auto tune, through the dance rap.

Either he's a mastermind at tricking people he makes good music for almost 20 years... or maybe he just makes good music....

He made good music. But making good music doesn't make you last that long. More of it has to do with marketing and his manipulative nature if you're objective about the situation.

Niggas kill me with that hypocrisy and double standard shit. Ya'll bitch and complain about being one way (shallow, materialistic, etc), pigeonhole him and when he switches it up ya'll chastise him for it. You can't have it both ways, be consistent with your argument.

I have a feeling it'll still be materialistic. But really coming from Jay this type of shit feels like just more marketing to make him seem important by being a "game changer" moreso than a sincere concern for the art but we'll see b.

Lol .... Hey bruh it is what it is .... I'm sure you weren't the only one

That song where he talking about Beyonce/fame and her cheating or whatever is already a step in the right direction imo.

He never talks about his takashi in that light. Why isn't that being argued?

Niggas arguing about the wrong shit. An album title tho? Like I said Jay bring out the most feelings in you niggas and that's on both sides.

I don't care that Jay brags that shit don't bother me one bit.

As long as the whole album isn't about that I will be content.

But what do y'all niggas go thru that makes y'all so insecure about another nigga bragging?

I really need to know

So Bey allegedly cheated on his ass?

Interesting ... .. and not surprising to say the least

Y'all do know it was MTO that said the song is about Bey....

I'd be highly surprised if Jay wrote a song about Bey cheating on him...last I checked Jay was one of the more reserved celebs...

MediaTakeOut bullshit.

It's about the ups and downs of fame.

But only Mr. and Mrs. Knowles knows the ins and outs of their marriage. But if by any chance that shit is true, niggas are gonna have to apologize to Tomp.

Yeah cause thats what you do when your bitch is trickin on you

Talkin bout it on a album damn near the whole world is is waiting on
