Collectively, African Americans have this insane view of success. We all strive for it. We all claim to want to see someone from the hood that looks like us, acts like us, has our same story make it to the top. Yet, once someone makes it and doesn't have a fall from grace, they're sell outs, white washed, not holding our values as their own, etc. Even with his music, people will say he fell of or he's wack now, but will bump Young Thug, Kevin Gates, etc. and be impressed lmao. Dude is at a point where he's too successful to be an underdog, and that's usually the position people of color root for.

Kevin Gates dope tho

I know everybody got an opinion but gotdamn, we gonna discredit a whole publication because we don't like what they write on or how they write about it? regardless to any facts they may present? I think what complex is doing is cool, they're not falling behind on the times by writing about what the source in 95 was writing about. They got young writers with their pulse on the majority of popular urban culture. They even touch a good amount of underground cats.

Anybody knockin them is just dumb. They're actually making a valiant contribution in documenting this seemingly everchanging tide in black music.

You lose all creditability giving a publication like Complex any validation or merit.

You gotta be at least the 7th dumbest nigga on this board,

Says the fucking the idiot who holds Complex Magazine in high regards in Hip Hop Journalism and Black Music and inferring its coverage is better than The Source during its Golden Era/Bible Years

Sit your dumb ass down.

Lol you just confirmed it, that ain't at all what I said, nice try tho, now go sit at the kids table Lil nigga

Isn't not liking what a publication contains a good reason to discredit it?

I don't think so. Especially when they're actually stating facts behind their cases. Then on top of that, state facts behind any opposing points of views. You can "not like them" but discrediting is , to me, a whole other conversation.

Apparently Hov having a billion-dollar corporation bankroll his 12th album was the straw that broke the camel's back. No pun intended.

Hahahahaha. Them niggas even threw in a subliminal in the article. SMH

Lol@ niggas using jay electronica as a leverage point in this discussion like jay electronica out here rapping about having a "bucket of frozen water on his chest" and " my jeans is 300"...

What the fuck is Jay E gonna do? He doesn't have a increment of the monetary power that jay z has...

Jay z can definitely do more than what he's been doing..I hate words like "philanthropy"..Those are just fancy words snobbish white people use to make themselves sound like they doing something

Muthafucka uplifting humanity should come naturally when you see all this suffering in this world

But nah you satisfied with your idol jay z releasing another album bragging how much wealthier he is than you, rubbing that shit in your peasant face eh?

Soulless ass niggas

I'm a big Jay-Z fan but I see your point, he can and should do more for all the wealth he brags about....it's always why I have a much deeper respect for 2pac compared to all these other artists out there, 2pac truly seemed to give a damn about his people. Jay-Z never gave off that kind of vibe, so I can't argue against you at all.

Jay-Z has given out many jobs (Rocnation, Rocawear, etc) but he could do a lot more for the wider community. And he did visit Africa and help with clean water programs, so I give him some credit for that. But again he can and should do more.

You said this:

You're implying that the what Complex is doing today is better because if they were to duplicate the kind of coverage of hiphop and black culture that The Source did in 1995, they would be behind on the times of the current scene.

I most likely copped my first hiphop album and Source mag while you was still an itch in ya pops nuts again sit your dumbass down.

Complex writing this article is like Usmarine asking why does people hate Jay Z, or Shadyteam asking why do people hate Eminem, or deathrowzorrow asking why do people hate Nas.

I only see this childish wwf black and white no gray area type conversations in the reason (and hip hop in general)

So because think tidal is a joke im no longer a jay z fan and i hate jay z ...

nah see, where you fucked up at is trying to make an implication out of my statement to further validate your point. Your argument has no weight bruh.

But for shits, I'll elaborate. Complex is cool because LIKE the Source in 95, their pieces are a reflection of the times. They're cool because they're NOT writing about shit the Source was writing about in 1995, because it aint 1995.

So in summation, I don't respect my elders. So whether or not you bought the first issue of the Source and the first Grandmaster Caz dub off Third Ave before I was born, you sound like a new nigga out here.

Because he's a sellout

Dont get me wrong the man is a natural lyrical beast with a fluid dexterous flow but he's a corporate whore...A black boule jew..Not to mention his art is severely diluted now..its all about the money with this nigga..Hes a agent smith

I haven't seen jay build one school, hospital, community center etc..I haven't seen him do something significant with his wealth...He should go rebuild his old neighborhood..His investments are self serving offerings to fuel the matrix..

I seen Pac doing geniune significant and moral things with his influence and wealth..He truly cared about people.

you really think Jay-z cares about people..He wouldn't even buy candy from a kid off the street

Hm..
