Usually, I'm just a fan of the music. I'm terrible in understanding the business side of game. I'm trying to understand how companies like Samsung are going to help other artists? Do they have to be already established like Jay Z to get a blockbuster deal like that? How can rappers have full creative control when companies like Reebok can fire Rick Ross for misrepresenting them because of his lyrics? I don't know maybe I'm asking the wrong questions? Help me understand yo

IMO Samsung are not thinking about helping the artist, they are trying to please their consumer with extras like the app and the early album release...from what I gather, the deal is for access to exclusive content for the whole Roc Nation roster for Samsung users...the ultimate goal is to entice iPhone users to use Samsung. A marketing ploy.

Jay Z fits the bill since him and most of his artists are successful. They have the means to tour and promote with the backing of Live Nation.

Its like people who opt for the HTC because it has Beats Audio incorporated. Will appeal to the music lover, DJs etc...

Now, die hard Jay fans might pick the Samsung when it's time to renew their contract instead of getting the iPhone/smartphone.

In regards to endorsement deals, I'm surprised rappers don't have contracts written up that allow them freedom of speech via their artistic endeavours. After all, the reason Reebok signed Ross was because he was a popular rapper. I personally would have that written in to any contract signed, within reason. That being said, rappers do have to think about how certain lyrics are going to be interpreted.

so y'all really arguing about this huh?

all I know is an album is dropping that I will check for

if it's dope it's dope, if it's a weedplate it's a weedplate

simple as that

Lol. Im done argueing the business aspect.

Million sold before the album drops and people still want to hate.

Time for me to stop argueing with fools. At least about the business aspect. Ill only be debating the music from now.

Damn.. You seem real touchy. Do you work for RocNation full-time? Or are you an intern/worshipped?

Its touchy to realise its pointless to debate an issue?

I dunno about y'all, but the the reason you have a debate is to get someone to agree your point of view and/or teach them.

I feel its a lost cause doing that in regards to the business aspect, which is obective and clear cut. Theres no if ands or buts that this is a win for jay, and has the POTENTIAL to change how the music business operates. But I realise unlike myself people are argueing based on their emotions rather than objectively.

And the reason ill still argue the music is because that is subjective. Its down to oppinion which sometimes can bring about good debates.

Or exchange views and potentially gain some new knowledge and/or insight without changing your overall opinion on the matter?

1. You don't see any possibility of the business affecting the music? In the newest promo video roughly 1/3 of it is dedicated to Samsung, obviously they are trying to gain something from this deal.

2. Could you explain how this would change the music industry? Jay won here, no doubt, but there's nothing that indicates this is anything else but a plain, simple, regular record contract, where Samsung gets to play the label.

I used to wonder why some Jay fans were called "warriors" .. .

This thread puts it into proper perspective

LOL

Its not just the fans, its the detractors...in fact, its mainly the detractors.

For them to hate him so much, its b/c they either

1) They despise the praise he gets- thats just you're run of the mill hater, nothin new there, or

2) They unreasonablly expect more from him (financially, attention, change the world, etc.)- this is what exposes their own bytchassness

Whether it be Jaz-O, DeHaven, Jim Jones, @Tomptrez, whoever...more than likely they fall into 1 of those 2 lanes.

lol you thought jay was gettin his j cole on with this album?

"back in 88, I was sneakin out ya dorm room

the pussy i ate, and cleaned up like a broom"

"They can't outfart me Guru!"

FYI for all the people who are talking about the Magna Carta limiting the power of the King and what not. The Magna Carta is the major documentation which our Constitution is based on, it may have limited the power of the King of England but it also gave us the foundation to model our country and Constitution on. A lot of out Bill of Rights came from the Magna Carter.

To me the ideology behind the album title is not limiting the internet but creating something new or finding a new way of doing something while building off of an old concept.
