Whoa people in here calling Vol. 1 a pop album? LMAO this is why I barely participate in this section anymore. There are too many illogical posters in this bitch.

Are some of the wittiest, most creative, introspective and soulful songs in the man's career. That's more than 85% of the album right there. It's one thing to say that the sequencing on the album is off cause some songs threw the pacing off thanks to their placement. Hell I finally replaced I Know What Girls Like with Wishing on a Star as originally in my itunes intended thanks to advantages of the digital age but to say it's corny and pop? lmao
Personally I think Jay-Z making songs like Tom Ford at his age is cornier and more laughable than anything he was doing in his late 20's.
What's corny about Tom Ford?
40 year olds can't listen to dance records or appreciate high end fashion?
That's pretty interesting ...
And I agree with you on Vol.1 not being a pop album ... I don't know where that came from ... Only person I saw say that in this thread was @S2J .... I guess he was tryin to contrast this project with older hov shit ... But as you just pointed out .... These niggas clearly be struggling to do shit like that..
It's not the content it's the execution though frankly it would also be nice to not hear this dude spit about the same shit he's been spitting for almost 20 years. But you know what if Jay-Z didn't mature musically that way it's not my issue. I'll point out that I didn't listen to this album in it's entirety. I have no interest in even downloading it but I'm an NYC nigga and people all around me are now playing it cause it's new Jay-Z.
I have heard some of the songs you guys keep talking about (BBC, Holy Grail, Beach is Better, Heaven, Tom Ford, bla bla bla America) when I was riding around with my cuz the other night and for the most part I wasn't impressed. The best song of the bunch (Beach is Better) wasn't even 2 min long. The minute I heard this nigga talking about "twerk Miley twerk" I felt straight up embarrassed as a hip hop fan.
Jay making club anthems for the dumb niggas of today. With his dumbed down flowing like Rick Ross on some special ed rap type shit and some of the lamest lyrics he's had in years. Ruining a decent beat that gets fucked up halfway through with some Nintendo sound anyway. Listening to Nas rap over a sample that sounds like a clown's theme song I'm expecting Gwen Stefani to pop up saying "It's BANANAS". With all due respect to fans of the album that shit just wasn't for me.
I didn't like Blueprint 3 which I did hear in it's entirety back then. I guess I'm a Jigga (RD, Vol. 1, SIW) fan and American Gangster was the last ride for that guy. Hova (Vol. 2, 3, Dynasty, BP. BP2, TBA) was cool too at points. Euro Jay I just can't really fuck with and like he suggested I just stick to his old music when I want to bump some Jay-Z. IMO he should've stayed retired. He went out like a boss now he's just ruining his legacy cause he sounds bored as fuck. He's become a parody of himself and I usually stop fucking with artists when they reach that point. I could spend my time doing something else.
