KTULU IS BACK;1881110 said:none of these groups are united into a monolithic "people"
the sectarian divisions in jewish culture are extreme and hilarious
the arabs are still divided by tribes
the mexicans are a mixture of spaniards and natives and hate each other
the chinese have hundreds of different ethnicities
the koreans, same deal

Oprah would be a fucking fool to specifically cater to African Americans when we make up such a small percentage of the American viewers.

on NPR's "Tell Me More," BET co-founder and fellow billionaire Sheila Johnson slammed Ms. Winfrey when asked about the mogul's new OWN network.
“The only advice that I say, let’s open up your circle a little bit more. You know, we love the Dr. Phils. We love the Suze Ormans. Let’s open up. There are other people. And there’s also African-American experts out there that I think she should start bringing on her show that can reach even a wider audience.”
Sheila said she sees Oprah's new venture as a missed opportunity because of its lack of diversity. While saying Oprah has the power to create opportunities for minorities, Sheila said she hopes one day this will become a reality.
“And I think she really should do that and not be afraid to do it. There’s really a lot of great experts out there that really know the businesses at hand. And I’d like to see her open up her circle to do that.”
OWN could use a little color; however, I don't think Oprah has ever used any of her platforms to only provide opportunities for minorities. But Oprah has said herself this new venture is a learning process so maybe there's some changes in the works. Or not. Either way....it's Oprah's and she can do as she pleases. Your thoughts?
Why do we always do this shit, mfs did the same fucking shit with Obama! Why is it when one of us make it in a position of prominence we try to put the black people torch on them and expect them to be every and anything to the black community and strictly cater to us. We are so fucking quick to yell that sell out shit when someone doesn't align to that monolithic thinking!
Change is a slow process, nothing is gonna happen over night!

She's right....if the Jewish, Chinese, Latinos can build together why Oprah shouldn't bring our own people in her outfit to diversify? She's always catering to the White audience...everyone knows this. Sorry you missed that memo.
usmarin3;1881198 said:Well i kind of got that when she said they needed people beyond Dr. Phil and Suzzy Orman, because i'm quite sure both appeal to African Americans and white people also.

I wouldn't go so far as to make a public statment about it, but it would be nice for her to put a Black person up on game the next time she decides to do so. Phil McGraw, Dr. Oz, Rachel Ray all White. It it were me, I'd get Black people but that's just me. She has no obligation to do so, but it sure would be nice.
usmarin3;1881260 said:I could of sworn she is giving her best friend Gayle a show. She seems to be playing it smart to me and appealing to all people, she even gave that Asian broad Lisa Ling her own show.
garv;1881232 said:Theres nothing wrong with having diversity is what she said, and i agree she could be having the Dr Michael Eril Dysons and Dr Phils on her show without compromising her ratings.
Iheart~Cali;1881278 said:Last I checked, Lisa Ling wasn't appealing to the Black community. She's Chinese though. Oprah's getting closer.
