Besides him being white, how is Eminem really marketable?

s,

cs, good post

A lotta people just hated the fact a white Artist came from the bottom, came from the hood, came from the struggle and made it out and made Music about his life that connected with so many

If Em was Rapping about Money, Cares, bitches, balling, partying etc and let's say was selling modest like a few Million each Album but never went Diamond and even to sell that 2 Million each Album he had to rely on that typical club Hit record so many do or rely on a typical RnB type Single so many have to

Most people in here wouldn't have a problem with Em he wouldn't stand out he would be selling modest like ya average Rapper does making typical Music alotta Mainstream Rappers do

But when it's an Artist that is White and actually did come rrom a harsh enviroment from the hood from a struggle and makes Music about it and sells so well making Introspective/Deep Music that makes a lotta people who don't like him uncomfortable

I really don't understand how Eminem can get this much hate, yet the people on these forums that are delivering the hate like inferior rappers. Drake, Kanye? Don't get me wrong I love Kanye, but he doesn't have Em's skill. I don't understand how they can even be compared; Kanye's songs (from his college shit) sound good, but they're not at the same intellect as some of Eminem's rhymes.

And Drake, I'm not a fan of similes.

Get used to it buddy, this is the IC. O and every rapper gets hated on, he just gets talked about alot more.

Cos like i said look at the White Rappers they all make Music that has no Substance, no meaning, no connection to the listener be it Paul Wall, Asher Roth, Mac Miller etc

Drake and Kanye are also very typical as far as they make the typical records for the ladies, typical club records etc don't have much Substance and neither of these guys i named from a tough poor backround

So when you got Eminem strictly talking about Eminem type records oppossed to Shady persona making the same type of records 2pac did but going on to sell more naturally some are going to not like this cos they never seen a White Rap Artist coming from an enviroment like Em nor making the type of Music that reaches people on a personal level like him

Yeah, maybe I'm on the wrong forum. Bigavell's completely right about relatability, and Eminem's appeal is much more than that. Each album has a theme, and he doesn't stray from it. Not only is each verse well put together, but his entire albums are so methodically put together in a way that conveys his message that would leave an impression on an English teacher. I could go way more in depth about the tracklists, the verses, etc., but it seems useless on here. He's truly an artist in the way that he makes music. Nobody can take that away from him, no matter what color he is.

I'm not forgetting the production value or the mentoring by Dre, though. I've seen a lot of people say that they only liked Eminem in high school though, so my reason for liking him could just be because I'm a teenager.

Bigavelli is one of the worst posters on this board if not the worst. She literally is Stan from the song "Stan" only in a female body. She goes by Bigavelli/Wonderland/Shadyteam/Dretox and all of her accounts have been banned at least once we just cant figure out a way to lock her out for good. She thinks I hate her and Im weird cause I dont have a problem listening to the psycho Em shit like "Criminal" and "Drug Ballad" when in all reality Im just a "normal" fan of his and I dont have a problem with her at all until she starts posting the same threads that she's been posting for the last 3 years.

Welcome to the IC homie

You just get a complete package with him Meaniful relatable Lyrics, Substance, Catchy Choruses, dope Production, Melody and a ill Flow with the ability to not only speak on real life issues he been through but do it articulatley blended with Emotion you can feel what he saying with his voice too the way he expresses his message

Then you got the fact he can Write and Produce any type of Hip Hop Song it can be a Song like 'Rock Bottom' or a Song like 'Soldier' or a Song like 'The Real Slim Shady or a Song like 'Smack That'

People well atleadst males on here ignorantly put it down to white but really it's image females are really attracted to him so of course that is going to benifit him it's why he has the biggest female fan base looks are a major thing it also benefited LL Cool J and Nelly the reason the other White Rappers don't have the same female fan base is cos they haven't got those same looks that females find attractive like with Em

That is just something you blessed with and it is going to benefit you in the entertainment industry

You know what I don't get about people who think Eminem is The GOAT (or 1 of them)? They never really listened to his music but call him a lyrical genius becuz he has good rhythm.

Nobody wants to really tell u that "Infinite", "The Slim Shady EP/LP", "The Marshall Mathers LP", and alot of "Encore" was complete jibberish as far as lyrical content goes. He didn't say anything that made sense. In fact tha only cohesive thoughts Eminem was rapping about were about Kim, Hailey, his Mother, and dissing Pop Singers. All of the rest of it makes no sense and has no true artistic value other than the fact that it's comedy and it's a white man who caught your attention in a black created and dominated (and Owned) Genre.

No1 will really tell u those things about Eminem. They'll try 2 play it like he's some underdog (which he is) and they'll try 2 say he raps about relatible music when in reality "Recovery" and "The Eminem Show" with various scattered songs are the only things he's ever rapped serious on.

I get it, so let the white kids have their rapper, I'm not against that in the least (everybody deserves a Hero), and that's no backhanded shit either. But let's not act like blacks and everybody else are gassed up and claiming Eminem as The GOAT or Their Top 5 (the proof is in AHH Top 5 Dead Or Alive lol).

I'm sure all of this will get lost somewhere in the mix tho
. Alot of people rooting for Eminem will never be honest about it. "Complex" called Eminem The King of Hip Hop and NOBODY Co-Signed it (it wasn't becuz of hate/intimidation either).

Just imagine in 5,6,7 years (if they last that long) what they'll be saying about Yelawolf and Mac Miller. I think Yela got a flow but let's be trill he's a redneck, what's supposed to appeal to me about a Redneck Rapper. What, becuz he's signed with Eminem (via Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Slaughterhouse) I'm supposed to automatically co-sign him?

Truth be told, Eminem was never all that. He just stood out like a sour thumb, broke racial barriers, and blazed tracks and features here and there. That sounds like a good thing but in the bigger picture it means very little.

So basically Em is a fraud who knows how to rap well right? lol

And people can't be mad at Eminem for that cos it benefited black Rappers like Nelly, LL Cool J, T.I. and so on too let's not act like females aren't attracted to Artists based on looks that is not a new thing

Any form of entertainment and even Sport looks are going to benifit you if you considered desirable and are liked by females for your image that is not in ya control it's just a blessing but those type of females that like any Artist cos of looks and image they don't remain loyal fans they jump on to the next entertainer that feel looks good

With Em he won a lotta these females over with his Music too which is a good thing

David Beckham the soccer player even in his prime was not not as good as Players like Rivaldo, Zidane etc but why was he so hyped up outside the sport? cos of his looks and image

Oh come on now, listen to Criminal and tell me his lyrics don't have substance and inner meaning about society.

Hell, "I'm not homophobic, you're just heterophobic." is a line that reverberates the fact that the majority is oftentimes discriminated against moreso than the minority.

This goes with the ideal that many people have, not an opinion that I share, that black people always call racism on white people, making black people the real racists. Or that straight people are labeled "homophobic" if they refuse to go to a gay bar etc.

I can name many more lines, even if you limited me to just that one song, that are not just nonsense like you said, but I don't want to beat a dead horse. I don't really want to be that annoying person defending Eminem like I've deified him, so you can have your opinion on the matter. I just wanted to show people that it's not just because he's white.

no, not at all. plz dont be so Drama Queenish about it. i think he's honest.

but it it's like i said, everybody ignores his album content and bases Eminem off of his singles and his features, nobody wants to really debate his album content. Eminem was never a serious rapper in the 1st place so why y'all are sitting here saying Eminem relates to Urban Life i have no idea. granted there's trapper rappers who rap only about The Trap but we're not talking about them, we're talking about Eminem.

y'all wanna act like Eminem was really saying something but he wasn't half of the time (and sometimes most of the time).

Maybe you should call out names cause everybody doesnt see it the way your saying. Only a handful of his groupies go out of the way to talk about the things your saying. Granted he does have serious songs on every single one of his albums, the majority of rap fans probably dont relate to it but then again I dont relate to 95% of rappers so that shit is irrelevant to me.

A counter argument would be nice, but I don't really care. I don't want to be THAT GUY, I'm not claiming that Eminem is the best, it's just that I feel like a lot of the hate against him stems from several different things. Read my original post and tell me which one is your reason.

No. that line is a response to the criticism he was receiving from the gay community. Stop reaching. Eminem is a very good rapper technically but he doesn't now what subliminal/subtle is. And this is not an insult or whatever, but are you white?

Even on his first 2 Albums The Slim Shady LP and The Marshall Mathers LP you had Intospective Song's, Meaninful Lyrics, Heart Felt Songs like this which won over a lotta fans

Then obviously on his 3rd Album The Eminem Show you got an entire Album that was Introspecvtive/Personal/Deep from Start to finish as well as with Recovery

And obviously you had a lotta Introspective Song's on Encore

And keep in mind Em was releasing so many Introspective Song's speaking on real life experiences as Singles too like 'Sing For The Moment' 'Cleaning Out MY Closet' 'Mockingbird' etc and those Singles were big Hit's

What about
"Please Lord, this boy needs Jesus
Heal this child, help us destroy these demons
Oh, and please send me a brand new car
And a prostitute while my wife's sick in the hospital"

No substance there?

You want me to fix up lyrics while the President gets his dick sucked? {*ewwww*}

But don't blame me when little Eric jumps off of the terrace
You should have been watching him - apparently you ain't parents

I'm like, "Guidance - ain't they got the same moms and dads
Who got mad when I asked if they liked violence?"
And told me that my tape taught 'em to swear
What about the make-up you allow your 12-year-old daughter to wear?

That's all I'll do for now, but he highlights a lot of things wrong with the society that we live in. You can't say I'm reaching for any of those; it's clear cut. I do understand what you're saying though SawedOff, lines like "I invented violence you vile, venomous, volatile bitches vain vicodin vrrrin vrrin vrrrin", or more generally the whole Kill You song is the gibberish that you're talking about. It's still good rapping though technically.

I wasn't trying to say that anything is subliminal, it was really directed at SawedOff who said that he doesn't say anything of value.

EDIT: He said there's no coherent thought other than about Kim or Hailey or something else.

Alright, my point is that Eminem just says what he feels/wants to say, there's no debate really on what he's trying to say or what he means. On the other side of the spectrum, there's rappers like Andre 3000, Kendrick, Black Thought etc that require you to delve a little deeper into the words. For the record, i like early Eminem (hate new Eminem) but like to clown shadyteam/wonderbitch/biggacokefiend

It depends like a lotta black people on here feel no matter how much Eminem Makes Music about things they been through or go through or have experienced it's uncomfortable connecting to that from a White person

It can be the siomplest thing too like a black person can be a parent and they can love their kid just as much as Em does but they still can't fuck with records like Mockingbird simply cos it's a White person making that record

This doesn't go for all blacks on the IC some have no problem admitting they can relate and like those records and feel them but the fact is alot are uncomfortable with it just cos he white

Then at the same time most people who actually buy Eminem Albums actually purchase it are Middle Class people from the Suburbs or well off backround that know nothing about what Em Rap's about as far as poverty and growing up on welfare etc they never ever been through that but these Middle Class folk that are his fans still appreciate where he came from understand he went through that struggle and just enjoy the MUsic

But Em's most loyalist fans if we talking generally are White people that actually can relate to what he Rap's about like poverty, having no father, growing up in the hood, living in section 8, being a parent struggling to get by etc those that come from the same poor enviroment in the hood he did or they may not directly have grew up in a typical hood but still come from a poor backround those fans are the 1s that relate, feel and are his loyal core fan base but there are exceptions there is non whites like my self who have no problem acknowledging i can relate and connect to his Music cos i been through it myself
