I hope Jay hears LIG and the love its getting to make a hot album. I don't give a fuck whose better, I just want more good music. Can Jay make a classic anymore? I don't think so. not because of his skill or anything but its the fact that people won't respect him spitting hustler stories at 45 so if he does that even if its a ill album people would hate it, and if he changes his style to se conscious hip hop, people will talk about how jay changed his style and hate it. but either way, I hope Nas' success lights a fire in jay and we get a dope album.

I'm also waiting for that AZ album now. Y'all know everytime Nas drops a dope album, AZ follows back with a dope album.

And yo, ima get a lot of hate but Blueprint ain't a classic to me. I love the album, the beats are fire, but lyrically jay was at his worst on most songs. Just my opinion though.

What's crazy is that outside of the IC BP3 and WTT are loved all over america lol...Jay Z's fanbase is way larger than Nas and he appeals to all kinds of fans...It seems his old fans want him to stay the same for what they like...Nas can do that because he's been rapping the same way for years, but he sacrifices a bigger fanbase by not being able to make certain type of music.

Nas stans...its almost sickening lol...Yeah Jay will hear LIG and spark lit under him lol....Yall think Jay cares about Nas' music like that? lol Did Nas hear American Gangster and spark lit under him? lol Two different artist.

What's funny is Nas and Jay rap about the same things just in different ways...People don't see that though...Nas talkabout Drugs, Money, Cars and Hoes too..Even on LIG...Jay rap about things OTHER than Money, Drugs Cars, and Clothes even on BP3

Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I would love to hear a American Gangster type Jay less bragging and more introspection but not.like the introspection on WTT. Jay sounded out of place. I would like Jay to drop music on par with untitled, DR or LIG but I don't see it happening. Nas has been wearing the Crown for four years now

You niggas kill me with this KHUFFI MUSIC NONESENSE, Jay-z ain't a bean pie eating rapper, why is that so hard fo you niggas to get. The dude came from the streets, that's like saying why don't G RAP make a introspective album. It's like ya'll hold Jay-z to this double standard and use the backpack/conscious standard for rhetoric. Why can't Nas make entertaining music and club bangers, that's just not Nas lane. Accept Nas for what he brings and Jay for what he brings.

Jay-z been holding NY since Biggie died, say what you want about his albums or whatever, but the man has never had any lulls in his career like Nas. He has consistently burned up the summer when NY was going through it's drought.

@ the bolded: it's funny you mentioned that, being that the first song Jay dropped a verse on was on some Muslim shit. And a lot of those "bean pie eating" brothers are from the streets too, when it comes to NYC. Same goes for 5%ers and Black Hebrew Israelites.

@mumo_X

The thing is Nas and Jay went completely different directions in their career. Nas went the Ima make music and that's that, whoever likes it likes it route. Being that he's talented, lots of people likes the music he made regardless of the topic. If Nas wakes up feeling like damn hip hop is fucked up he makes an album like hip hop is dead. When Nas raps Nasir Jones is the one who is rapping. Nas fans are fans of Nasir Jones.

Jay on the other hand, established a charachter when he starting rapping and raps from the characters point of view. Shawn Carter might feel a certain way about current events and want to talk about it but that's not what Jay Z is about. Jay Z fans are fans of the character that Shawn Carter portrays and expect to hear Jay Z. The only problem with that though is that Jay is 45 now and no body wants to hear hustling stories from him anymore. He didn't grow with his fans so most of his fans outgrew him and only listen to his old work, so he can't get most of those fans to pay attention anymore, so he has no choice but to gain new fans every time so he can never get out of that Jay Z persona. And a album about hustling and dealing and living flashy, no matter how good its done, by a 45 year old Shawn Carter will jot be considered a classic.

Only album Shawn Carter made was kingdom come and people hated it, album wasn't even that bad, but people didn't respect his growth from jay to Shawn when it happened that fast.

Nas been growing with his fans since stillmatic, that's why he can rap about anything he wants and his fans will like it and respect.

So can jay z make a good album? definitely, but a classic? Na cause people won't respect his glory life raps or sudden growth to conscious raps out the blue.

my bad for the long post.

Good post. The question is, is Jay creative enough to craft an album that most cats relate to? Cuz dude likes to stay in his comfort zone.

imo kanye and Just work is why Blueprint is considered classic.

If Jay-z continues to sell 3 times that albums that Nas sells, doesn't more people relate to Jay. I mean at what point does logic kick in to you niggas, why would Jay make music for a bunch of niggas who he would never win over.

@rong lol at you getting mad for people not really listening then you go around not really reading.

No one saying jay gonna listen to LIG and say damn nas snapped on this joint, and feel inspired to make a dope album.

the reality is, critics are loving LIG but not just that you got lebron James, Mary j, scarface and other rappers talking about how ill the album is. When Jay hears about the person his career is in twined with getting all this praise, his competitive nature might be like yo fuck all this shit ima show these nigas.

I hope that happens too. A dope Jay album would be appreciated.

That's actually not the first song Jay dropped a verse on for one thing. The point i am making is, why do you niggas continue to use your pretentious standards to try to compare Jay and Nas. They are two different artist with two different upbringing. I don't here people telling Big Daddy Kane to spit that knowledge of a Rakim, G Rap to stop the street tales and get deeper like a Chuck D.

I honestly believe these Nas fans are salty at Jays success, like ole boy said, you don't see Jay fans talking about Nas should make a Black Album. Wanna know why, because Jays career is on a whole other plateau than Nas.

@usmarin3 yo much respect to jay for selling records. But son I give no fucks about that. records jay sells ain't putting money in my pockets. Jay connecting with white and young Americans who buy records is cool, and admirable, but we talking about a dope album.

You can walk out the barbershop and have someone hand you a free CD by someone who has not sold a single record in their career, put the CD on in your car and get amazed like damn this is a dope album. on the other hand a platinum album could be wack as fuck.

right now we only talking bout dope records and if jay can make one. I ain't a hater either, ima huge jay fan who wants to hear one of my favorite emcee put out quality music.

No, it's not. It has 4 good songs and is a top 3 worst Jay-Z.

Jay-Z is done yall. As much as we all want him to make good music he doesn't have it in him any more. If he gives us 50 verses only 2 of them will sound appealing. His voice sounds old and uninspired and his flow is a joke now. Lyrically he fell off, and it's only so many decades we wanna sit here and listen to the same tired millionaire rants and kilo's in the benz in 88.

Off his whiney "Love, I don't get enough of it" voice alone he is incapable of crafting another classic. It's just different annoying.

LOL at white and young america, so you've met every Jay and Nas fan now huh. How do you know who buys a Jay-z record?

LOL now ya'll want to use the sales don't mean shit excuse, but aren't ya'll the same niggas who was popping champagne for Nas selling a 150k last week.

Just just made a dope album with Kanye, the shit was just as critically acclaimed as LIG and spawned one of the most successful hiphop tours ever. Before WTT, he dropped a so so album in BP3 and a greart album in AG. Oh wait, people like to dismiss AG like it didn't happen, because it ruins their argument.

The only thing we can do is wait for Jay-z next solo album to see what he comes out with, the man hasn't dropped a solo joint in 3 years.

I see what you are trying to say but I got to disagree...Jay Z actually doesn't rap from a character point of view, he raps from his life's point of view...That's why most of his fans like his music, the things he are saying is REAL, he's not just making up a story about something he heard or saw.

@usmarin3 I was in the nas thread and also said how I give no fucks how much Nas sold. I only care about the product. and I don't know everyone who buys jay z albums but we all know who the majority of people buying mainstream artists are.

Why you defending Jay so much yo? I tried to intelligently explain my opinion of why I don't think jay can craft a classic even though I want him to. If your opinion differs from mine explain it in an intelligent way and shit.

All this but jay z sells and this and that don't answer the question.

Well I know I was close. I highly doubt he dropped any cameos prior to him fucking with Jaz in 89-90.

And you right, Jay never had a lull in his career. I even stated that Jay has a better career then Nas in one of buttuh_b's threads I believe.

I don't have a problem with Jay's content, as long as the lyrics are dope.

Edit: Jay should bring heat like he did on Shiny Suit Theory and Murder To Excellence more often.

Far from mad bruh..It's not that serious, just debating my point of view.

But Jay career is not twined with Nas...Only on the IC...Trust me Jay is a much bigger artist than Nas so people don't equate the two outside of Nas fans...BP3 got praise from everybody as well, and so did WTT...Jay is use to that attention, I doubt he care if Nas dropped a good album
