I just took a office job for 40 k just for the bkue cross and 401k benefits... and gonna contract on the side bout 10 clients 2hours a week at the contract rate

you got your own practice?

I have contracted for years... being a young black male therapist in atl there is high demand. Now i contract as supplemental income to the office therapist job

@konceptjones what do you do?

IT consulting. Anything from security, linux/unix engineering, virtualization, you name it I probably do it short of development. Right now the hot shit for me is standing up OpenShift environments 'cause everybody wants to get in on this whole containerization craze.

Hourly wage ....$25

But I've been salary for YEARS So that plus all the benefits I get ... not even sure how that breaks down hourly

Some of these wages have me curious to what y'all actually do

Most contract jobs are, without taxes... or insurance si u do ur own 1099 tax form and get ur own insurance. So 35 a hour is bout 67k tax free but u gonna pay bout 2k ti the irs.

You'd be surprised at how much money even temp agencies make off of you. If you're seeing $25/hr as a temp, they're probably getting close to $40/hr for you, maybe even more. It's rare that they're only getting a few dollars off the top unless it's a really low paying gig but they have a lot of temps working for that company. Back in the late 90's I was working as a temp making $9.50/hr, and I know Olsten Staffing was prolly only getting $12.50-$13/hr max off of me but that's because they had something like 60-70 temps there. They could afford to take that hit due to the sheer number of temps they placed there and it was an exclusive contract so every time someone quit, Olsten provided the replacement.

My job is salary and I bring in 1300 with taxes is 1080 every 2 weeks. To me this is a lot because I’m still taking classes and I don’t have to pay shit but car insurance, phone bill

Not sure because I was salaried for years and the hourly jobs I did have were entry level crap jobs..I think the most I made hourly with one of those was $15.50 a hr. Next year I'll start practicing and will prob bill around $250/hr...

Thats goat shit bruh.

What do you do?

I'm in my third year of law school, I graduate in May and will prob do securities law after graduation and passing the bar. 1st year associates typically bill around that amount(depending on the size of the firm and yearly billable requirements). Unfortunately the firm gets a good percentage of it...

When I add up all my salary and benefits etc I can break it down and see how much I make hourly

Is your plan to start your own firm ?

You can bumb that hourly rate up to $400 plus on your own and keep it all :)

$75 per hour doing a network cutover

I was the assistant tech, the network architect was making 160 cuz he had to do the cable runs

Most I made hourly is as independent contractor doing design work for around $70 hourly. But I often have to split 20-40 percent of that with someone else on my team.

I do what I gotta do, but I really hate the idea of selling time. I much rather sell a license, service, contract, artwork or just product in general. It's quicker. Oh and, not that it's a way to get rich quick but ain't no money like art money!

I'll hang a shingle eventually, but I want to get my feet wet before I start my own practice. My goal is to start one about 3 years after I pass the bar...
