Hard core Hip Hop fans anit buying music no more, Nas album Untitled should of went Plat but only went gold. Now only whack rappers getting record sales, if you don't make a club song or get no radio play no one is gonna buy your shit now a days.

1. Rakim hasn't gone platinum for 15 years. If he couldn't do it when we didn't have the heavy bootleggin/downloading, there's no way he's do it now.

2. If people didn't think his music was boring, 7th Seal would have sold a lot of records. But it didn't. Sales are a reflection of popularity.

4. Dead Presidents was great because of the production and lyrics from Hov. It would have been great with or without the nas sample.
5. Death Certificate and Ready To Die are without a doubt better than Illmatic. Ready To Die put east coast back on the map. Death Certificate is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time along with It Takes A Nation.

There's more to an album other than lyrics. While Illmatic may be better lyrically than Ready To Die or Reasonable Doubt, these two albums have better production, more classic songs and more replay value.

Rakim has no buzz.

18th letter(1997) never went platinum. The Master (1999) never went platinum, and The 7th Seal (2009) couldn't even go gold. Rakim's last platinum album was released in the 1980's. 20 years later and this lame is still rapping about atoms, bibles and spaceships. Why can't these 50 year old dinosaur rappers give it up?

Rakim is not the god mc. God mcs are supposed to adapt with the times and stay relevant. Rakim hasn't been relevant for the past two decades.

I wouldn't say that. I think fans do want to hear mcs kick knowledge, but I think they also want their artist who have a good delivery, personality and some charisma, as well. Basically, they want the whole package on an album instead of just hearing big words being delivered with no emotion. Dope production and high replay value helps, also.
