1. Rakim hasn't gone platinum for 15 years. If he couldn't do it when we didn't have the heavy bootleggin/downloading, there's no way he's do it now.

2. If people didn't think his music was boring, 7th Seal would have sold a lot of records. But it didn't. Sales are a reflection of popularity.

It wouldn't be outrageous to claim Death Certificate, The Chronic, It Takes A Nation, Ready To Die, or Reasonable Doubt are as good, maybe even better, than Illmatic.

Maybe not, but 15 timeless songs on Reasonable Doubt could be as good as 8 songs and a single from 2 years earlier on Illmatic.
