Hard core Hip Hop fans anit buying music no more, Nas album Untitled should of went Plat but only went gold. Now only whack rappers getting record sales, if you don't make a club song or get no radio play no one is gonna buy your shit now a days.

1. Rakim hasn't gone platinum for 15 years. If he couldn't do it when we didn't have the heavy bootleggin/downloading, there's no way he's do it now.

2. If people didn't think his music was boring, 7th Seal would have sold a lot of records. But it didn't. Sales are a reflection of popularity.

3. I don't live in my mother's house.

4. So what? A sample doesn't preclude an album from being superior. And Paid in Full is not the only album that can be argued is better than Illmatic. Amerikkkaz Most Wanted, It Takes A Nation, The Chronic, Death Certificate, Ready To Die >>>>>>>>>>>> Illmatic

1. name anyone who went platinum in 86

2. name anyone who went platinum anywhere from 87 - 91

3. i think u do live at ur mothers house. why?? because no one brought that up until u did

4. an illmatic sample was the hook for arguably the best song on reasonable doubt. illmatic helped birth reasonable doubt. it may not have happened without the sampling which helped make that song a hit

5 amerikka's ... no - it takes a nation ... close but no - the chronic ... too much obvious samples but a good arguement - death certificate ... better than amerikkkaz so which one do u want to choose?? LOL - ready to die ... not as potent and you know it

1. Irrelevant
2. Ice Cube went platinum in 1990
3. I don't live at my mother's house.
4. Dead Presidents was great because of the production and lyrics from Hov. It would have been great with or without the nas sample.
5. Death Certificate and Ready To Die are without a doubt better than Illmatic. Ready To Die put east coast back on the map. Death Certificate is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time along with It Takes A Nation.

There's more to an album other than lyrics. While Illmatic may be better lyrically than Ready To Die or Reasonable Doubt, these two albums have better production, more classic songs and more replay value.

1. Irrelevant how is it irrelavent when rakim went plat when no one else was going plat??

2. Ice cube went platinum in 1990 im gonna need you to prove this ... And even if he did ... Him and nwa were the only ones doing that many album sales. Gold was the standard in that time period and rakim did his part. Asking a rapper to go platinum in that time would be like asking every rapper in the early to mid 90's to go multi plat

3. I don't live at my mother's house. why do you keep bringing this up .... Im just gonna agree to disagree with you ... Ur on your moms laptop and you know it

4. Dead presidents was great because of the production and lyrics from hov. It would have been great with or without the nas sample. yes but with out the lead single it may not have seen the light of day ... Just like sticky fingaz solo album

5. Death certificate and ready to die are without a doubt better than illmatic. Ready to die put east coast back on the map. Death certificate is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time along with it takes a nation. Ready to die put the east back on commercially not artistically. Everything else is arguable. The point is rakims style birthed nas ... And nas ethered jay z

close thread

Smh. Make sure you don't ever call yourself a hip hop head.

1. Ice Cube went plat with Amerikkkaz Most Wanted in 1990. "Regardless of very limited promotion, and airplay, the album shipped 500,000 copies in its first two week out, and was certified Platinum one month later." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AmeriKKKa's_Most_Wanted

2. I live in my own house and I'm on my own laptop. The quicker you accept this the better.

3. Reasonable Doubt would have seen the light of day through Can't Knock The Hustle. Very successful single.

4. Ready To Die received 5 mics and universal acclaim just like Illmatic. More replay value, more songs and better production. Illmatic is better lyrically, but overall, Ready To Die >>>>> Illmatic

Nas might have ethered Hov, but Nas signed to and worked for The God five years later; therefore, Hov won the war.

Now we can close thread.

Rakim has no buzz.

18th letter(1997) never went platinum. The Master (1999) never went platinum, and The 7th Seal (2009) couldn't even go gold. Rakim's last platinum album was released in the 1980's. 20 years later and this lame is still rapping about atoms, bibles and spaceships. Why can't these 50 year old dinosaur rappers give it up?

Rakim is not the god mc. God mcs are supposed to adapt with the times and stay relevant. Rakim hasn't been relevant for the past two decades.

stfu wack nigga!

1. Rakim couldn't go plat again if he tried.

2. The new generation knows who he is, they just think his music is boring.

3. Rakim is not the only rapper to have an album that can be argued to be better than Illmatic.

4. Reasonable Doubt >>> Illmatic

1. With the right promotion and some big names, definately yes!

2. Co-Sign

3. Rakim and maybe Public Enemy, otherwise no one has a better than illmatic.

4. LOL

I wouldn't say that. I think fans do want to hear mcs kick knowledge, but I think they also want their artist who have a good delivery, personality and some charisma, as well. Basically, they want the whole package on an album instead of just hearing big words being delivered with no emotion. Dope production and high replay value helps, also.
