I remember that Pete Rock & CL Smooth "All Souled Out" EP came out in either 1990 or 1991, I still have it on cassette @ the crib.

Graduated in 03 and not liking G-Unit pretty much made you an outcast in hip-hop....Ludacris was just starting to get respect as a serious MC and not just the guy who made funny songs (the Damn remix and Made You Look remix verses did alot for him)...Nelly was being told he was ruining rap music forever and it would never recover, Eminem dropped the 8 Mile soundtrack which was pure fire....DMX hadn't completely lost his mind yet musically and still had some great songs left in him...Busta began his descent into trying to find his 2nd childhood, and the Outkast break up rumors started...

For me, I guess I'll start with what was hot in the summer before my senior year (1990). The summer between Junior and Senior Year we had;

Let The Rhythm Hit Em - Eric B and Rakim

Amerikkas Most Wanted - Ice Cube

100 Miles and Runnin EP - NWA

Peoples Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm - A Tribe Called Quest

To The East Blackwards - X Clan

Holy Intellect - Poor Righteous Teachers

Call Me D Nice - D Nice

Sons Of The Father - YZ

Fear Of A Black Planet - Public Enemy

Edutainment - Boogie Down Productions

Then DURING Senior year the following albums dropped;

All For One - Brand Nubian (Got 5 mics in The Source when it came out)

Mama Said Knock You Out - LL Cool J

Step Into The Arena - Gang Starr

Kill At Will EP - Ice Cube

Breakin Atoms - Main Source

Run DMC - Back From Hell

Then after my Senior year, which was the summer of 1991the following albums dropped;

"O.P.P" single - Naughty By Nature + album

"My Mind's Playin Tricks On Me" - Geto Boys + Album

Boys In The Hood Soundtrack

Niggaz4life - NWA

De La Soul Is Dead - De La Soul

As Raw As Ever - Shabba Ranks

Strictly The Best 2 - Various Artists

Peaceful Journey - Heavy D

I can vividly remember going to parties the summer after I graduated and "O.P.P" was the song that got the dancefloor packed and "My Mind's Playin Tricks On Me" was the song that would shut a party down. As soon as "My Mind's Playin Tricks On Me" came on a fight would break out and somebody would get stabbed or shot.

But the one song that completely sums up what it was like during the summer of 1991 was this;

Something tells me you just googled these names

NIGGA YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHY STYLES P WAS BUT YOU KNEW JADA??????

smh

Woooooo these shits was hot ass fire back then

My nigga Yeezy was getting ready to drop CD and that "Slow Jams" and that Usher "Confessions" had the girls in the rallies feelin right ...

Since I'm from Northern Cali niggas was fckin with that Hyphy real hard at the time that 7-0-7 shit from the federation

^^^^ Bunch of amped up kids off this shit...lol ..problems

I remember we still had local hiphop radio ...it wasn't some bought out playlist yet ...we had actual radio personalities we had a late night mix show that used to play a bunch of underground shit from different areas ....that's the first time I heard Rass Kass "Nature of The Threat" ....The radio station used to play full albums before they dropped like Flex Hogan does and all that....smh what our local radio has turned into now ...

Mase was getting ready to make a comeback

I was fucking with that N.E.R.D "Fly or Die" album real heavy

And this shit changed the game

Outkast-speakerboxx-lovebelow.jpg

Also since Kanye was the hot producer at the time ...hunting his beats down lead me to fucking with Slum Village "Detriot Deli" a little harder and that Dialated People's "Neighborhood Watch" joint too..

Overall pretty good IMO

But that's were I was at when I was 16/17 as I got older I went back I realized all the hot ass fire that got dropped during that time like

Cee-lo Green The Soul Machine

The Pretty Toney Album

The Grey Album

Murs 3:16

Shit my year was winnin out this bitch ...S/O to my '04 niggas

Man some of y'all got some of the best years. My senior year was so trash outside of Food & Liquor, thats the year snap music ran shit. It wasnt til September where I started my freshmen year of college that Ye's Graduation came out and soon American Gangster and The Cool. But I cant claim those albums. Fuck my life and my class of 2007.
