no in regards to the question, its simple: music appreciation.
black folks loved music to the core, the aspects of it, not just the songs. They would sit back and discuss the bassist or the drummer and his technique and the tones and all that techinical stuff. And on top of that it was nothing to have all kinds of folks on the block w/ all kinds of instruments, and using them shits too. Proficiently, whether or not they could read music.this was the case from like the 10's through the 70s in the "hood"
its started to fade away during the 80s..but those of the 80s were raised by mofos who were or around musicians...they had them on the block. thats why that 80s and 90s production was so colorful. they appreciated and knew music
now, ud be lucky to find a dude on ur block w/ a damn toy flute that comes w/ candy, let alone a real horn.
