First impressions are lasting impressions. Likewise the ignorance of their message and the market was a huge failure out the gate. Not to mention nearly every single person who is defending Tidal on this website is not going to pay for the service past the free trial.

One big mistake in my opinion is having some of the most polarizing figures up on that stage... at this moment, white people HATE kanye... for the longest many people have really disliked Nicki minaj... they Shouldve played it behind the scenes and kept the investors unknown to keep it real...

Or use Artists on the come up to show that they support the lessor known artists, and are dedicated to breaking new music while ensuring that artist aren't getting pennies when their records are streamed.

I will becuz I'm already paying for streaming now so me switching to this to give it a longer try ain't no hassle...I'll basically be paying for the same stuff I'm getting now at the same price I'm paying now with the knowledge of knowing I'll also get exclusive content that won't be coming with what I'm paying now..... Don't see anything bad about none of that to me but maybe I'm looking at it wrong *shrugs*

It will forever fascinate me how bad news travels faster or how people have so much to say about why a man is losing versus how a man won.

That article doesn't mean anything but that ppl are narrow-minded. Jay bought Tidal for I think $50 million and it was on a downward spiral at that point. He paid less than what it was worth to save the brand, the financial statements from the prior years are there for everybody to download free of charge. It takes years before businesses like this can turn around immediately not 5 minutes or 2 weeks SMMFH. Niggas are really trying to base an entire business with a dozen employees and markets all over the world like an album "Tidal didn't crack the top 100 las--" no shit doofus he bought it to turn it around and use it's platform to serve him.

But still I'll leave yall in yall squabbles. In 5 years time Tidal will make Jay-Z very wealthy. As with any business you have to let time run it's course before you be the judge. Warren Buffett bought Kraft and it has a failing food business so he merged it with Heinz to make it more efficient, it's going to take several years before the company starts piling out larger cashflows and several lay-offs later......

i could care less about how much money Jay makes and this is coming from a big hova fan. what i want to see is how they will compete in this market. fuck cash flow how much will their market share grow? Time will tell and yes it is early. However there was allot of ignorance in the marketing and message from the launch and start of Tidal.

It's the same viewpoint i have with Roc Nation Sports. Ok you got cano but his brand ain't been shit since he left NYC. Ok you got KD which by default is going to sell shoes for days for the next decade plus. But what is Roc Nation doing to help his image. Same with CC etc. etc.

My gripe with Hov recently is yes hes investing money and he is a black man doing his thing. But I want to see some of these big boy ventures do some shit on another level. Not pretty much use your brand and money like every other rich white folk running companies.

He should hire the right people and slowly build the company. My concern is why do these white own companies like Pitchfork and numerous source so up in arms about Tidal. Fucked wouldn't say shit if Bono did this. The same Bono who made millions off Facebook.

Numbers don’t lie: Jay-Z’s Tidal a spectacular flop

When Tidal made its big media push at the end of March, the core message was clear: While other streaming music services like Spotify and Pandora pay a pittance to artists, Tidal offers musicians a better deal. Unfortunately, Tidal also opted to use super stars like Nicki Minaj and Beyonce as spokespersons for the app. The result was the ultimate mixed message: You should feel sorry about how little money Nicki makes.

Two weeks after Tidal briefly cracked the U.S. iPhone top 20 download chart, the app has crashed out of the top 700. Apparently American consumers have limited empathy towards Beyonce and Nicki. Soon after the launch fiasco, Tidal’s CEO was kicked out in a “streamlining” move. The new CEO Peter Tonstad, a former consultant for the Norwegian Ministry of Environment, has his work cut out for him.

Tidal is now facing no fewer than three deep-pocketed rival music apps and they’re all minting money and riding strong momentum. The new CEO must somehow find a way to mop up after the ill-advised March launch and find a way to reposition Tidal in a crowded market… preferably by not trying to make consumers feel bad for multimillionaires. Or mentioning giving its rivals extra attention.

I know im in the minority, i know everyone here is familiar with and has been dying for 'lossless audio', but from a marketing perspective, the fact i havent heard Tidal actually explain this is rather odd.

You have to EXPLAIN what lossless audio actually provides and what gaps it fills in and what noussances it clears up that othrs dont-...

In the marketing world its refered to WIIFM....'Whats in it for me.' Clearly, Tidal has taken a stance of less for the consumr and more on whats in it for the artists. How do you sell Losless audio to the people who DONT knw what it brings to the table.

'Debating' on here can be like talking to children. You can tell em that fire is hot all you want, but some mfers gotta get burnt before they listen

When U2 dropped that I tunes exclusive album they got shit from errbody. People were pissed they got that shitty album forced upon them. Likewise Jack White fans (who has released high quality and limited edition vinyls for his albums) were pissed he was apart of this half assed launch. I saw comments from fans of white artists like Jack White who were not impressed with this.

And if you think Jay getting shit cause hes black that's not entirely true. Bono as you used is one of the few white artists that maybe will get a pass. You think the IC is brutal to rappers go to an indie rock message board or a punk rock message board. They diss the shit outta artists just cause. White artists be making decent 3rd albums and snooby critics just be hating the shit outta if just cause. Talm bout they sick of these mainstream fans and they knew the band first.

I been on a few jam band websites and niggas be giving critiques on every live show like its judgement day and shit. Watch a rock band have an off night and see how snobish people get.

Everyone has to start somewhere and there's not such thing as a perfect launch or score. The company was in dire straights prior and he's trying to salvage and save the company. With I think Tidal is actually the future for artists in general and the ultimate platform to sell your music. I think his goal was to buy the subscriber base and move his units on them. I don't understand the "like every other rich white folk running companies". It's just business at the end of the day. Don't spend more than what you make, keep costs low, invest the difference wisely be patient. Jay is on the right track it's just going to take time. I guarantee when forbes list next year comes around Jay will have a GOAT train in that post and niggas will praise him forgetting that many months ago they was shittin on him.

Yes and no. You can't honestly say between Roc Nation Sports and Tidal hov did market research before launching. He may learn in the long run but hes failed to research and educate himself before launches. Hes depending too much on his name and his fame versus taking a good 6 months plus to research both the sports agency venture and online music streaming.

Any true businessman spends time doing research. I have never felt hov has done that for these ventures. He seemed to rush this launch versus really looking at what he could do to change the game then re-branding the music service in the states.

you know something we don't? you in jays inner circle? you talking like you took a peep into this niggas browser history or something. you just talking out your ass now. we don't know how much research he has or hasn't done. but since this isn't his first business venture and has a pretty respectable track record I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt as far as how much effort he put into this (although I admitted weeks ago having all those top artists at the press conference sent the wrong message)

I also didn't know roc nation sports was a failure. I thought their priority was to ensure their athletes get paid all their worth. you've seen suh's cano's and durant's contract numbers?

I think they're getting the job done
