I probably could use a smaller bullet to get something a little flatter but I think 62 grn federal fusion MSR will be good if I ever wanna shoot deer or hogs.
can you hunt deer with a .223 where you're at?

around here you can't BUT my state also has almost zero deer hunting with rifles

I changed out the hand guard and buttstock on my AR-15 for that Magpul brand stuff and man, that shit makes holding the rifle WAY more comfortable.
also excellent furniture for fancying up your AK

that said, i am all about the SOPMOD stocks

In parts of the state (MN) where rifles are legal .223 is the smallest legal caliber.

Trying to hit a perfect target any further than 30 yards with just iron sights requires flat out elite shooting skills, which is something I do not possess at the moment, and truthfully that shit be straining on my eyes trying to align a shot that far out with the iron sights, i'll pass and just step into the future and upgrade.

I pull the trigger with my right hand, AR's with .223 might not produce any recoil for you but for me it does, so aligning a shot further out with iron sights on top of the gun moving when I shoot doesn't make targeting with iron sights all that comforting.

It's not that there isn't recoil with .223, it's just the actual felt recoil is sooooooo much less than other centerfire rifle calibers.

And when I said "off hand" I meant like are you using a rest at all.

@blakfyahking I'm not going to act like I know alot about optics because I don't but I just perfect the iron sight. It's just what I been taught and what I know. I'm not even saying that optics aren't better then iron sights because they are just I have a dislike for them. Thought when shooting 300+ meters gladly use a red dot

I feel what u saying.....I just think sometimes people can be almost "superstitious" about stuff a lot when it comes to firearms

someone may not be too familiar with a different tactic/tool/method because "gunsmanship" for lack of a better word is usually a part time endeavor to a lot of folks

so it's real easy to just go with the flow of what u heard vs. what u really know 1st hand from experience.....people pass what they heard from others on like a rumor, then eventually the rumor becomes the truth cuz folks don't really delve into it themselves to form their own opinion............I've been guilty of that myself

for instance "red dots" range from holographic EoTechs, to single-dot reflex sights, to mid-range ACOGs

so to say iron sights is better is pretty vague without considering which type of red dot we speaking on, and what purpose/distance u shooting for/at

with an AR-15 from 0 to 300yds, all of those red dots are more accurate, and quicker with target acquisition if they are boresighted correctly............300+ yards, u better off using an ACOG or even a distance scope even tho an AR-15 is only truly effective up to 550yds

I finally got the rifle this morning and picked up 2 American Eagle .223 20 round cartridges with it, prolly gonna hit the range tomorrow or Friday (someday this week) but right now I'm just practicing how to load & chamber and unload & unchamber the rifle while getting used to the charging handle & bolt lock function (while the safety lock is engaged by the way). Need a quad rail, vertical grip, and carrying bag ASAP to go with this shit.

make sure u get a decent sling for it too.........and a decent cleaning kit

AR-15s love to be "overcleaned"..........u should be in the habit of cleaning it after every shooting session

and try to practice mostly at 25yds.............shooting at other distances will become natural once u learn the difference between a mechanical zero and ur battlesight zero on ur AR

I been watching videos on YouTube on how to clean, I haven't gotten a cleaning kit yet but I will, only been to the range twice so far and fired close to 100 bullets combined in those two trips. I can see a few little dust particles resting in the walls of the evacuation chamber but I haven't taken it apart to look inside at the bolt carrier yet. I was gonna fall back from shooting until this cheap ass Field Sports reflex sight i ordered from Amazon came in cause I'm already tired of the iron sights.

I'd keep the iron sights and just suffer through the learning process. Its gonna take a lot more than 100 rounds to get it figured out. I've been shooting since I was just a kid and I'm still figuring stuff.

for ur 1st AR....stay with the iron sights bruh

like I said u should know the difference between ur mechanical and battlesight zero at 25yds

and cheap reflex sights are a waste of time.......save ur bread and expect to spend at least $400-$500 for a quality reflex sight.....see if u can try different ones before u pick one.........some folks think EoTech is better, others like Aimpoint

nothing is worse than a cheap sight that can't keep a zero SMH

Oh, I thought i was only adjusting the rear sights just to be able to see better when trying to align the front sight on to an intended target, that chart just made shit a lot more complicated.

not really

adjusting the front sight post: moves ur sight picture up/down

adjusting the rear sight post: moves ur sight picture left/right

ur goal is to shoot at least 3 shots dead center in a group (although) 5 shots are better

if ur fundamentals are straight u should easily be hitting the black target

I'm canceling that Amazon order and I been looking at the prices of them EOTech sights that blak is talking about and truthfully, i refuse to pay the same price I paid for this gun just to purchase a specific brand optic sight for it. On top of that, these ain't just the commercial knock off variants, these are that military/law enforcement issued type of shit. I respect what blak is saying but the same price I paid for my gun is the same price I have to pay for my optic? I'll pass and just look for something half as similar but for a more reasonable price, shit.
