Pusha-T Says Big Daddy Kane Is Better Than Rakim?

I understand Paid In Full being more influential, but imo Let the Rhythm Hit Em is their best work.. kinda like how CD was more influential and has more cultural significance, but LR is a better body of work.. and all four albums I mentioned are classics..

I can't even name 5 rakim songs if my life depended on it
this statement makes your judgment of Rakim INCREDIBLY suspect. "i can't tell you anything Rakim's done, but Chuck D is better!" i mean, at least tell me you're deeply familiar with both catalogs and carefully came to your decision on the merits. because my position is based on "i have all these Rakim albums and all these Chuck D/PE albums, and if i listen to them all right now, i know Rakim is the better rapper." i'm biased, but i think that's more reasonable.

It's nice to see people actually talk about some of the greats that paved the way for the guys most of us listen to today. I think BDK is nice but I'm going with Rakim and even KRS over BDK by a slight margin.

I would also like to say I am a huge PE fan and think Chuck D is crazy underrated but to say he is better than Rakim and BDK is a little far fetched

Both are GOAT but it's Rakim for me. Nas is a son of Rakim and Jay is a son of Kane but thing is most these niggas out now are sons of Jay including Pusha T.

G Rap is better than both of them

I wish people would stop saying this because this is false.

its not false, its opinion...

g rap was waaaaaaaaaay ahead of his time with his flow and content, light years... him and polo invented 'mafia' rap... he birthed big pun, raekwon, vinnie paz, necro etc

and he is still making fire to this day, unlike rakim and bdk... actually bdk does drop schitt from time to time, and still sounds dope, but g rap is always dropping something dope...

it really depends on u. they are different types of rappers but u cant go wrong with either. for me its kane...i happen to think rakim is overrated

Can't remember where I read it, but there was a underlying beef between BDK and Rakim that never came to the surface, but just about every rapper between both of their circles knew about it and didn't Rakim had a diss ready for BDK?

In Set It Off, Kane said; Rap soloist you dont want none of this!!!....I remember Rakim saying he let it slide though

ra actually threw the first shot at kane. kane hadnt dropped an album yet and was in the studio clowning ra for taking too long to make a song. in check out my melody ra said

So, what if I'm a microphone fiend, addicted soon as I sing

One of these for MC's so, they don't have to scream

he also said...Just turn it on and start rockin, mind no introduction

Til I finish droppin science, no interruption

these were jabs at kane for being an unknown complaining about his time in the booth...

kane responded in set it off by saying

Do damage onstage and injure the mic

As I shoot the gift MC's stand stiff

While my rhymes stick to you like Skippy and Jif

Feel my blood fist, or my death kiss

The rap soloist, you don't want none of this

ra got an advance copy of smooth operator and said

smooth operator operating correctly

kane then wanted to battle face to face but ra declined and for many of us from that era it hurt rakim...we didnt understand why he wouldnt battle...kane it would seem was right by saying rap soloist u dont want none of this...my pic has always been kane since that time

Interesting quote from this other site:http://www.egotripland.com/rakim-big-daddy-kane-beef-r-a-the-rugged-man/

Kane is a battle mc. That is what you were hearing in "Raw", Set it Off, "Aint no half stepping. rhyming over slow beats and fast beats. Rakim is not in that league. As Moe Dee said "Kane would have DESTROYED him in a battle on stage".

I'll leave you with this. In an interview with Kool Moe Dee, he was asked about that same question, "Who win in a battle between Rakim and Kane". His reply went like this : "In a battle on record, I think Rakim would win. In a battle on stage with both going back and forth, Kane would DESTROY Rakim.

Nothing new.

Some prefer Rakim, some prefer Kane...just like some prefer Nas, some prefer Jay.

All of them are G.O.A.T. emcees to me and listened to all their shit. My avi speaks for itself.

The thing is Rakim was way more consistent.

Albums like Taste For Chocolate, Princess of Darkness and Veteranz Day.

Throw most hip hop heads off.

Rakim basically had 3 classics in a row, and 2 good solo albums.

Kane wasn't that consistent and he's my fav.

Menace is buggin, he has Big L in his top 5, nothing to see here.

Taste of Chocolate is dope except for the ballads. Prince of Darkness is pretty bad tho altho the song with Q-Tip & Busta is dope. Never heard Veteranz. Rakim definitely was more consistent, but I you're reaching saying that Ra has 2 good solo albums tho.

How?

He might have one.

Kane has two classics and Ra has like 5.

I count 1: Paid In Full. Follow the Leader is a disappointment, I didn't like Let The Rhythm Hit Em, but Don't Sweat The Technique was a near classic.

So...the album that gave birth to MICRAPHONE FIEND, FOLLOW THE LEADER, TO THE LISTNERS, DOING IT WITH THE R...is considered a dissapoinment?....NIGGA KILL YA SELF WITH A BENT RUSTY FORK...

I respect your opinion but Seventh Seal was aiight minus the production that could've and should've been better. G-Rap's last album was a letdown to me. G-Rap was and is certainly nice tho', no debat in that...

It's all about personal preference.

To me, both are one of the GOATS. I don't wanna be forced to make a choice because I like both for what they did and stood for.

Rakim brought that lyrical aspect in the game. He singlehandedly changed the way n*ggas rapped back in the eighties. This brother had mad quotables. Without Rakim there wouldn't be no Nas etc.

King Asiatic is madd underrated though. Most n*ggas recognize him for his commercial cuts and ladies lover personna. They tend to forget his n*gga was crazy nice. While he made some commercial cuts his rhymes were always on point. He combined that battle bragadocious rap with that willie personna, basically the blueprint for the biggest rappers. Without him you wouldn't have no Jigga, Big L, Biggie etc.

As far as flow Kane got Rakim beat. I think Kane would beat Rakim in a live rap battle. On wax Kane would've gotten him too IMO.

Melle Mel is the grandmaster of all this shit and Grandmaster Caz is the father of kane and kane birthed jay-z..

My goat list..PAC, Nas, Rakim, Melle Mel, Moe Dee, Kane, Krs, DOC, Cube, Grandmaster Caz

Thats a ill ass goat list b. But to stay on topic. Both are in my top five but as an overall mc I gotta go with kane cause of his live performances. Like Pusha said, Kane has the whole package. Chuck is in his own lane because of the serious political content.

as far as that one nigga ...that one nigga cuz i consider Eric B & Rakim as a group, not as a solo artist even tho he was the only one spittin...same for Kool G . But Kane was just BDK.. the nigga swag was shittin on niggas from jump. Suits the haircut, the trunk jewels cmon cuh he was that dude who fathered that dude who fathered that dude. Annnnddddd he had dancers . Kane is GOAT
