i think that what people need to consider is that snoop is just straight

flowin'. i'm not sayin' that he has mad mad rhymin' skills, but he can flow.

like he says, when he raps it's like he's just talkin', and that's probably why

he uses the same lines in multiple songs. it probably took him like five

minutes to write that ****. the problem is that he doesn't take the time to

revise his ****. he just writes it and it's like that's it. i think he should

be more creative with his lyrics, though. on the production tip, i'll admit

that the funk thing is gettin' tired. after hearin sooooo many people bitin'

dre's style he ought to realize that he either needs to make his **** 100 times

better than the biters' or innovate a whole new style. anyway, i think "what's

my name"is an o.k. song and the video is kinda corny but fun. peace.

While for most artsits, 400,000 in the first week is a great number, in
Jay Zs case, it is horrible. Layor Cohen, CEO of Def Jam records was on the
record several times stateing that Vol 3 would sell more than a million
copies in its first week. Def Jam spent millions of dollars promoting Vol 3,
and the build up lasted for months hyping its release. Obviously, it didnt
really work. DMX was somwhat more sucessful, but he in part was helped by a
hit single. In the case of both of these acts, these albums will probably be
their last sucessful releases as their material is getting tired out. Things
really do change in the space of a year.

But yeah i remember niggas used to diss the shit outta Jay-Z. Even down the line in 1996-2001 he used to get dissed ALOT in magazines by fans when they used to print comments. Everything niggas say about Jay-Z now they said back then too.

That's why i kept saying Jay-Z didn't get that love until 2003 when he got with Beyonce and become more succesful and decided to "retire".

The one aspect of rap listeners that I could never figure out

is why they so doggedly insist that rap is a form of music.

NO ONE can convince me that rap is music. There is no functional

merit to it whatsoever, except maybe for a catharsis of frustrated

would-be musicians. As proof, see Webster's Ninth collegiate

dictionary:

rap n. 1. a sharp blow or knock ; slang, criminal charge or prison

sentence. 2. to talk freely and frankly.

The very word implies that rap is only talk set to mindless drum

beat, and cannot be classified as music. Beastie Boys or no, rap

does not qualify as music because it does not satisfy the requirements

for a piece of musical composition. You can't just call it music

because there happens to be a constantly repetitive, all-too-often

unoriginal musical phrase in it, which often consists of only one

note. And they call this *music*!

To say that rap is music is like saying that the WWF is a valid

competitive sport! Any yutz who can't wrestle can just gain 300 pounds

and get into the WWF, same as anyone with a modicum of rhythm and

an obnoxious voice can rap, even though they are almost-but-not-

entirely devoid of talent.

Hell, it doesn't matter, rap is going the "disco route" in a year or

so anyway, and we won't have to endure it for another 15 years when it

makes one of those unwarranted and improbable comebacks, not unlike

bell bottoms and Meat Loaf. The rest of us will be able to relax when

rap is dead, Dead, D-E-A-D!

Snoop didn't even write. Snoop flows, and then he might jot it down. But Snoop always freestyled. Maybe not on joints like Murder Was The Case but other songs. Snoop is a natural off the dome.

Mic Geronimo: Masta IC b/w Time to Build

It's been out for a while, but the Buckwild production on Masta IC still makes it a great listen. Mic Geronimo still reminds me of Nas, but he can hold his own (how 'bout him, AZ and Nas do a record together?). is Common Sense putting out a new album anytime soon?

While I didn't like their album when I first got it... there are a few

genuinely good tracks on it. They didn't get much play on MTV (They

should have released something other than Breaker 1/9 as their second

single though...) though.... A Penny for Your Thoughts and Soul By

The Pound are pretty good...

Has anyone heard of a group called Common Sense

Just wondering if anyone had heard of a hip-hop group (out of Chicago, I

think) called Common Sense, and if they have, what they think of them. Any

info would be appreciated.

Common Sense isn't bad. When I first bought their tape a

few years ago I thought it was total crap, but after awhile it

grew on me. That album was very underrated. Are they coming

out with some new stuff?

no details yet) Tupac has been shot again 4 times - he's in critical

condition. Damn, this might be it for this brother - that's 10 times

he's taken bullets, ****! I hate to hear this ****...wonder if it has

loss of respect for the Source

I definitely have beef with them on the Best Albums of 93 ****:

Where is Midnight Marauders??? I first thought that it may have been

released too late in the year to be considered, but if Souls of Mischief

made the deadline......

Speaking of which, those of you out there who are stil sleeping on this

incredible album should go and get it. I don't really care for the two

tracks they've released ( 93 till and That's when ya Lost) but the rest

is THE next ****. Opio should have gotten "Best rap of the Year" for any

of his insane verses. The word FRESH comes to mind.

Brand Nubian? I always thought that it took more than a few good tracks

to make a years best list. They did beat Snoop on the remake tip with

their version of PRT's "Peace, Allah and Justice" or whatever it is

called. I thought Muslims couldn't smoke bud? "No Mystery" was crazy,

though. In any case, I forgot about this album a long time ago. They

didn't even put the good version of "Punks Jump up" on it either!!

As for the mega bashin of the Soul Assassin family, where did all of

this come from? A few months earlier they have Cypress on the cover and

then this? One of their racist writers must have sat next to a whiteboy

on the subway pumpin "Hits from the Bong" on his walkman and bugged.

The Source preaches about 'REAL RAP" all of the time, yet, the fact that

they print an ad for the new FunkDoobiest single in the same issue as

they totally discount their whole crew shows just where the Source has

put its priorities- on making money.

aight.. check this out

I went to the Nas / Redman / Eminem / Mobb Deep concert last night

in Hartford CT.. sh1t was alright.. sound was sh1tty

opening acts kinda sucked (one group called Rough even had the

audience throwing the free tapes back at them..

I'ma get to the Cormega and Nas dissing jigga in a minute but heres a

little review...

Mobb Deep comes on with about 15 heads and start with Survival of

the Fittest.. a fight breaks out

in the front row which delays Mobb for a bit - but they finished there

set and ripped **** up..

Redman comes out high as fuk.. ripped some old sh1t..some new sh1t

even jumping head first off stage one time.. that n1ggas krazy

Eminem was aight.. no one was really feeling him and the sound on his

sh1t sucked.. he was so pissed he threw the mic down and was bout

to walk off stage but then said fuk it and finished his sh1t repeatidly

telling everyone to" throw there middle finger in the air..."

Nas comes out and just wrecks sh1t..

He has Screwball and Cormega along with about 5 other dudes with

him.. during the beginning of the first verse of Life's a B1tch the beat

cuts out and hes about to stop but the crowd keeps singing the song

so he goes on too for the rest of the verse.. fuk a beat

After he finished Cormega and Screwball did a little freestyle

w/o no beat.. which gets to the point of this post..

Cormega tells everyone how and and Nas are like brothers and

as long as they together they unstoppable (remember Cormega's track

"Fuk Nas" kinda funny that they together now)

At the end of Cormega's flow hes like "FUK JIGGA, Jigga can't touch Nas!"

Which makes me think.. "Is Hova gunna let him get away with that?"

I think not.. Lets watch how this sh1t progresses...
