Bump this shit. Aye I gotta question for my navy cats. How hard is it to become a nuclear tech. And is it easy getting on on the civ life

Fuck I need 300 posts for when I been on this site for 3 yrs?

Ight I need you military cats help. I graduate college in December with a degree in Marketing. I racked up about $38K in loans already and I am kind of skeptical trying to find a job without any exp in my field other than some unpaid internships. What I'm thinking about doing is joining the military specifically the AF ( brother and pops in it) or Army. I've been looking at the commissioned officer route through those 2 branches and looking at the careers they have in it and see some jobs that might interest me. The bad thing is that I have a 2.8 GPA and that probably will go up to 2.9 by graduation. I know GPA is just a factor in the commissioning when you have the AFOQT for the AF and with the Army the ASVAB.

I went to an AF recruiter and he asked me my GPA and asked me "If I wanted to be a pilot" I thought he was kidding but, I've been looking at stuff on the internet and the AF really wants to see a pilot slot candidate with leadership and volunteering as well as high test scores. But idk that has always been a dream.

I'm trying to see if I were to be commissioned in the AF I'm thinking about doing going into the contracting specialist officer job. My brother is enlisted and switched to that job couple yrs ago and he's been in the AF for 10 yrs about to get out this year I think. He was giving me the details and it seems like something I would like to do, dealing with purchasing and project overviewing. Im thinking if I don't go officer I could go enlisted in that job and after 4 yrs I could land a sweet ass job with the government making bread.

I also plan on paying my loans down and using tuition assistance and possibly the Montgomery GI bill and the Post 9/11 GI Bill to pay for my Masters part- time while I am serving or, after I get out.

Yall got any kind of experience with this? I'm gonna graduate at 22 so I'll still be relatively young when I dip from the military and have experience and the education for a good job.

Aight famo im looking to be a commissioned officer myself in the AF and ive done a little bit of research.....

The BIG deal with commissioning is the AFOQT. The lower your AFOQT score, the more critical a recruiter will be of your other factors (such as GPA).....the Higher your AFOQT score...well..no recruiter will turn away a high AFOQT score....

As far as being a pilot? I mean if thats your dream bruh and you qualify, do it.

But I will say this, only go Rated Officer position (any "flying" officer slot such as pilot, navigator, combat systems officer, Air Battle Manager) if you wanna do a flying job in the civilian world or you wanna be a career officer (Rated Officers make up the vast majority of 0-6 and above ranks).

And about that contracting specialist job.....thats not a bad move either. You'd have a nice office job in the AF and a high chance of having something good on the outside. If you for sure can get a nice Civilian Contractor job when your done with the AF, I personally would go this route as it requires the least amount of training/responsibility....

Only problem would be FOR SURE getting that job. With the reduction in force going on military wide, jobs like that are more competitive than ever, hell that job might be getting reduced so take that into consideration.

The key is man not focus solely on that career. Air Force has a lotta great support and personnel career fields. Mind you with your degree you SHOULD try something in Mission Support such as finance, contracting, communications, things of that nature...But your ASVAB and AFOQT scores is what makes you...Be open to things like Intel (they offered it to me and I turned it down like a dumbass kid), Planning and Scheduling....really anything that guarantees a high security clearance or a particular technical skill/knowledge (meaning HIGH civilian world crossover).

Yea thats what I'm looking into, eventually I want to have a career in the civilian world that is creative as well as dealing with some high level shit. I'm really trying to live in NY or LA later in life and think the AF would put me in the right direction
