Jay and Hip Hop are winning right now

Jay-Z's chart-topping Magna Carta Holy Grail isn't just a personal triumph for the hip-hop baron. It's another victory lap for rap.

The genre is on a hot streak this summer.

Magna Carta sold 528,000 copies its first week, according to data from Nielsen SoundScan. For the first time, four different rap albums have consecutively held the No. 1 spot.

Kanye West's Yeezus was the first, followed by Wale's The Gifted and J. Cole's Born Sinner.

Magna, Jay-Z's 13th No. 1, extends the rapper's lead among solo artists for the most chart-topping albums. Among all artists, he ranks second behind The Beatles, who have 19, according to Billboard. Elvis Presley and Bruce Springsteen are third with 10 each.

Magna also set a record for the biggest first week ever on digital music service Spotify, with more than 14 million album streams.

Good fro him but I hope he doesnt try to go chase the Beatles down.

19 #1 albums is alot.

They also have 20 #1 singles and that might be the only record that can get broken.

Mariah is at 18

Rihanna will break that Beattles record imo

Jay only 7 from the Beattles, i think he will do it. He's working on another album according to Mike Will, he would just have to pick up the pace a little bit. 4 years between solos is pressing it.

Being hot doesn't mean shit, being commercially consistent doesn't mean shit. The only thing that means shit is dropping quality music.

LMFAO then what the fuck does Lil Wayne have to lean on them if not sales, it damn sure ain't classic albums or timeless music.

Quality music is the last thing i think of when i think of Wayne. When i think of quality music from this generation, Kanye West is the only person that pops in my head. Oh yeah, he consistently shits on Wayne sales wise too.

Fuck Lil Wayne. I dont give a fuck about Lil Wayne. Do you not get that my whole purpose when talking about sales is to show how irrelevant it is when indicating quality of music?? Popularity shouldn't determine how good an artist is.

If popularity doesn't determine how good an artist is, what does?

I always thought that is something is well liked, it generally means its good....

Form an opinion on the music itself, not external factors.

Reason I argue about sales is because I love business. Jay-Z is one of the most fascinating figures in hip hop when it comes to marketing, management and finance.

However I don't think sales are an indication of quality at all. Fuckin fat ass Adele who isn't talented last album sold 30 million copies. But if you wanna give a rapper props on their sales you should be consistent and fair to everyone. If we get to the business and psychological aspect of it we can say why a rapper sold what they sold. Most people are uninformed though.

anybody who says Adele has no talent but then has gucci mane in their signature. comments and opinions are completely irrelevant.

If you say so b. Or you could do the knowledge and check my track record in the R&B section. I ain't nothin but a French Montana fan though.

Co-sign, I don't listen to her music as I don't really fuck with that pop music like that but to say she can't sing is ridiculous.

Which Beatles record #1 singles?

Hell naw

She only has 12 #1s

She needs to pass Mariah first who's sitting at 18.

Number 1 hits aren't easy to get and RiRis not gonna stay relevant or long

lmao what does your knowlege on r&b music have to do with adele when adele is not even a r&b singer. your statments get more stupid by the minute. adele has tons of talent whether or not if you like her or not but to say she has no talent is a just plain dumb.
