A lot of the reviews from non-Hip Hop outlets seem to penalize Magna Carta Holy Grail because it isn't Yeezus part II. It's also the first time seeing reviews criticize a Jay Z album for being a Jay Z album. For example, this line: "A triumphant little zinger, no doubt. But what about the rest of us? When an artist self-identifies as a corporate entity, are we still Jay-Z fans? Or are we Jay-Z customers?"

^^^ It speaks volumes about some of these critics. Yes, MCGH has flaws, but statements like the one above speak more about the critic than the album and Jay Z himself. It says that these critics are just writing to write at this point. This is Jay's 12th album and this critic is questioning "are we still Jay Z fans or Jay Z customers" when Jay said he dumbed down to double his dollars on album #3. Asking a question like "are we still Jay Z fans or Jay Z customers" is just dumb at this point

....funny thing is this train of thought or logical reasoning is actually quite prevalent in your typical everyday hiphop listener

Same kind of argument ...same kind of tone

It's interesting

I agree.. And I have been very careful about this.. DJ Chubby Chub is from my neighborhood.. For those that don't know he is a part of the group Original Flavor.. With Ski Beatz and Tone Hooker.. My introduction to Jay Z was back in 94 on the song Can I get Open.. Been a fan of Jay since then. He, Biggie, Nas, and Big L were my favorite rappers at the time.

The so called Euro Jay that we have been hearing on the last couple of albums I havent been a fan of. The last album I enjoyed form Jay was probably the Black Album.. And that one to me was just okay.. I do remember bumpin PSA on repeat when the album first dropped.

I say all that to say this.. I know what originally made me fall in love with the guy as an artist.. Lyrically niggaz wasnt seeing him.. But he also had hard beats.. This album brought me back to that.. Listening to this album I got the same vibe I got back in 98 when Vol. 2 dropped. This is a official Hov album.. And I guess we had to go through Euro Jay to get to where we are now..

One thing is for sure.. He aint gonna get on a track and feed me bullshit and im gonna buy it.. If he comes hard like he did on this album I will always support. Also.. The folks that dont like this album aren't really day 1 Jay fans to me. They appreciate the brand more than the artist.. If you been riding with Jay since before he dropped an album.. There is no way u can't fuck with this.. This is Jay at his best..

Oceans is such a profound track.. That hood is MONEY!.

FactsOnly.

Ha

I hope this doesnt catch on , last thing i wanna see is these instagram hoes with "facts only" snapbacks

Me neither ... But this is Jay-Z were talking about ... So...... You know.......

Nobody called the shit "deep" your over exaggerating with your rhetoric ....as most "non smart dumb niggas" tend to do

However the line is good ... And displays an individual being observant and providing social commentary ... Something that flys in the face at what a JayZ album is typically perceived to be

Just so I'm following you. This all started b/c I simply said the line was "not really deep"

You followed with some bullshyt about not knowing the artist's heart or some shyt::

JDSTAYWITIT.;6023205 said:
Meeeehhhh nah

Problem is you can't really make a definitive statement like "it ain't really deep" or whatever the case may be because you didn't write the shit nor do you know the intent .... This is exactly why lyrics get misinterpreted all the time by niggaz swearing they know what such n such talking about

Ok, so you dont think its not deep, but you also dont think its deep either??

But then you say:

For example ..Jay explained the Miley Cyrus line on twitter ... And while its not exactly some James Baldwin esque assessment of American society it is a very keen attempt at explaing the fear in which older white culture still has in regards to black cultures deeply impactful influence

I dont know bruh, seems like you're leanin closer to 'deep' than 'not deep'. Which is cool. if the line touched you, it touched you *shrug* Im just pointin out that some listeners may have a higher bar for lyrics than you. It's a witty, clever line, no doubt. But you wildin if you take it further than that, which you did.

That Miley line is a triple entendre to me..

You have the surface/literal meaning of Miley Twerkin

The underlying meaning with Miley being Cocaine still being trafficked in the country

Then the third meaning that Jay eluded to during his twitter discussion.. Brilliant line..

Somewhere in America is my second favorite joint behind Oceans.. Third is FuckwithMeyouknowIgotit..

Feds Still Lurkin..

Exactly...Which is why I kept sayin this the Jay I usta look up to...A lotta these reviews and shit look like they comin from people who really weren't fans of the nigga in the first place...When I was younger, Jay, Biggie, Busta, and LL were the only New York rappers I liked or wanted to like...So when the remaining 3 started to fall off it was terrible...But I know when I hear somethin reminiscent of why I became a fan in the first place...Jay might be old but he dancin on this album...

I see these non smart dumb niggas have reading comprehension defeciancies as well ... Why does this not surprise?

Keen =/= deep

I gave you the adjective in the paragraph and yet still you struggle?

Why is this?

Don't try confuse my words as they are very clear and apparent ...

I said the lyric was "good" I said It was observant I said it provided social commentary ... i explained my intepreration .. what i did not say was anything about the shit being "deep" as in articulated in such a way that most "should"....."should" have difficulty in understanding and or profound in nature

And lol at "touched" ..."touch" ..."touches"

You tryna goad emotions out of another nigga on an Internet forum?

That's what you niggas do?

get cute nigga?

niggas try to be cute on the Internet these days?

That's what what's hot out ere in these streets?

I'm not the nigga Cuzzo ... Go try that kiddie shit on someone else ... Niggas always play the emo card when in discussion ... I must have "touched" a nerve ..lol

Typical

Chris Richards is telling the truth. Jay z siad you niggas are not worth anything .Y'all niggas hyped up off 16 weak ass tracks of rehashed Jay Z topics only because Samsung and Jay Z made a spectacle out of the release. jay z ain't doing nothing on Mchg that other niggas have been doing all year. Jay z rapping about h town coming down and spending racks. I thought it was bk til I die? It's a problem when 20 somethings like ace hood or flocka make ignorant songs about about balling out but when a 49 year old rapping about poppin mollies in the club niggas wanna give him a pass. Instead of doing what a rap god does like changing the sounds and formats of the culture with a release Jay Z just showed everyone how pathetic he will make himself sound just to get attention. What kind of hip hop fan would place this in the top 5 tier of Jay Z albums? This shit don't go harder than none of the volumes or blueprints. Niggas are in here delusional about they favorite rapper running out of breath on 2 8 bar verse songs. Jay Z blacked out on a non traditional beat like Grammy family but he let the backing track of Tom ford eat him alive. Jay z was like a blind man in a Ferrari on that song. He takes 3 to 5 second pauses after ever bar. Jay Z didnt kill anything on this album. 808 style production in a summer season bailed his wack lyrics out.

jay never said he pop molly, he fucks with tom ford.

and bish his wife is from h-tine. bad bitch...h-townnnn

why you so bitter?

Are you new to the reason?

Tomp been doing this for years now.

What's worse is he had a Bleek album in is avi.

Nickels and Dimes is fire. Jay needs more songs in this pocket/vibe. I love the style. His voice is more prominent and the beat creates a somewhat serious vibe, like listen up.

Jay-Z's "Magna Carta" Officially Certified Platinum

jay-z-magna-carta-holy-grail-platinum-plaque.jpg

A new photo of Jay and music industry executives posing with a platinum Magna Carta Holy Grail plaque is starting to make its way online.

After hitting a million Samsung devices with his new album,

Magna Carta Holy Grail, Jay-Z was certified platinum today by the R.I.A.A. and Billboard.

The album dropped officially on July 4th on Samsung and hit stores today,

the same day that Jay got his plaque.

Nah that shit ain't platinum actually Samsung cop 1kk copies. Soundscan don't count it as platinum. What if Nas was the president of Nike? And let his album drop with the new model. Shit would hit 3kk platinum
