is "Life Is Good" a certified classic?

IMO, it takes no less than 3-5 years to determine if something is truely a Classic. Only certain albums in music history got the Classic stamp right out the gate. In Hip Hop there's only been a chosen few that were able to do it including NaS's "ILLmatic" to be one. Right now after 1 week, no I can't call it a Classic, soild yes, Classic no. Get back to me in 2015 and we will see how it's held up. Being a NaS fan so long and the fact that I've posted on different forums for over a decade, everytime NaS or Jay drop an album people call it classic. NaS fans called "SD" a Classic double album when it dropped. "Hip Hop Is Dead" and "Untitled" were called Classics too, here we are years later and none of them are Classic albums. Time is and will always be the final judge on music or art in general's timeless status. I was calling "Reasonable Doubt" a Classic in 96 when most of my friends disagreed with me. Time verified it's status. So if you think it's a Classic now, fine but again only time will certify that.

When iLLmatic came out, they was calling it an instant CLASSIC

Michael Eric Dyson said Life Is Good is a CLASSIC....... HMMMMM :-?

I don't believe it takes years for people to label something a classic. Thats a bullshit excuse. imho

Were you alive when Illmatic came out? Time on the IC has shown that most people who make those comments were probably 5 yrs old when it came out

I'm with you on this. I thought it was a good album when it came out, but I still feel to this day Black Moon's Enta Da Stage was a better album...at least in my eyes. Life Is Good is ok to me. It's not bad & it's not spectacular, but it's Nas so I definitely respect the effort.

Just so we're keeping count, the Reason has idnetified the follwoing albums as classics:

OB4CL2 drops - 'Ohhh, CLASSIC!

'WTT drops, 'Ohhhh CLASSIC!'

Cole World drops, 'Ohhh CLASSIC!'

Dark Fantasy drops, 'Ohhh CLASSIC!'

Life is Good drops, 'Ohhhh CLASSIC!'

^^^^None of those albuyms are classic, and for soame it takes years to realize it.

So in that way, yes it takes years to realize an album is NOT classic, but it shouldnt take years to realize an album is classic.

Nggas are so lost in terms of 'classics'. Nggas have some how come to think if u can listen to an album all the way through = classic!

No. Lol Classic albums have classic songs.

For comparison sake, on Stillmatic, how many times did you have to listen to Ether, Your da Man, 1 Mic, Rewind, to know those are classic songs? Years? No.

This album actually does have potentially classic songs (Stay, Bye Baby, Wouldnt Understand), but not enough to be an all-time album

Niggas was saying that it was written was wack when it first came out. Fastforward 16 years later and it's now considered a classic.

The only album that is close is my beautiful twisted dark fantasy

This one came to mind this morning on the way to work, but only for production purposes.

Its a 5 STAR album to me personally

The content of the songs, lyricism and production are top notch and different from most HipHop albums out there released on a major record label ..

Plus this guy will put rap niggas half his age to shame on the MIC

This is excellent album, but it's laughable to call it classic. Have it sparked any debates, was it hyped or influenced someone? It's just great album coming from one of hip-hop greatest MC that only solidfied this title.

its to early to say if it is a classic. i dont believe you can have a instant classic in hip hop. im not saying it takes 10 years but it does take time. for me a classic album has some sort of impact on the game. it will take time to see how the album affects the game.

In todays Hip Hop...It's a certified Classic, Lyrics & Story telling at it's best! Life Is Good is NaS realest album and I can honestly say there haven't been a cd in yrs i can listen to begining to end.....Classic Hands Down!

Good Drop, LOL @ All the 90's babies flocking to the song cause they didn't know it was Guy and Arron Hall singing. It's all good though, as long as they learn the history that's all that matters. I'm glad NaS, Saleem and 40 are schooling the youngins. Just so ya'll know the album this is featured off actually went Double Plat.
