Half of what you're making now?

I don't know Loo.

If there's a chance that eventually you'll be making considerably more than you're making now then it makes sense, but if you've gotta do a whole lot just to get back to where you are now I wouldn't risk it.

Get a side hustle and see if you can turn that into something.

You're were a journalism major that's now in Web Design right?

Maybe you can do something on the side with that.

From the outside looking in, sometimes a new gig can look better than it really is.

If you can, try and talk with some people who already work there and see if it's everything it's cracked up to be.

thats good advice.

i've got alot to conisder.

theyve offered me the position, i told them i will be in touch.

and yes, i'm the journalism major who now does web/graphic design.

So the new gig is paying half of what you currently make? I dunno fam. It's a gamble that may or not pay off in the long run. Go w/ your 1st inclination. Everything that glitters ain't gold & you can never truly trust those who are spitting that "this company is so great" bs. About 8-10 years ago I had a job interview at this one company. Everyone was saying how great it was to work there....how good the benefits and chances for growth were. I was unemployed at the time & had just gotten a job offer from another company but it was making less. My gut told me to go w/ the job making less. Good thing I did because the other company went out of business a couple of months later. All that glitters ain't gold. Research the new company as much as possible before taking a pay cut that significant.

not sure if u got kids to consider, but what's good w/ the benefits?

go with the growth. sounds like you'd be happier with the new gig.
you already seem pretty excited about it.
you sound like a smart dude who's got some cash put away.
better get to extreme couponing.

very sound advice.

the stability of the company is not a factor-- they own an entire office building in Houston and are building ANOTHER one in Houston with plans to set up shop in Florida, Denver and Utah.

i think i'm willing to bear the financial sting if it means giving my career a much-needed push. i'll sleep on it and post my decision in the morning.

my yute, all I will say is "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"

the grass ain't always greener on the other side

if you can manage a side hustle, I say go for it........................otherwise it'd be best to stay where you are

cause the landlord gon want his rent money regardless of how great the opportunity may be at your next job

Congrats.. So how long do you surmise it will take you to at least get back to the pay scale you are currently at? And how much does the pay grow with each possible promotion? What are their promotion policies? Giving up 50% of your salary is major, unless you make like $100k then you'd be making $50k which most people could definitely survive on. Do as much non company biased research as you can before making the leap. Then again going to a well paying job that you dislike is not a good route either, if you don't have kids etc then I'd say if you are gonna be happier at the new gig then go for it.. If you were happy when you first started at your current gig you have to keep that in mind as well. In any case I wish you the best of luck.

GUI design and QA. Nah nigga, I jumped ship and got a 50% increase though. Funny huh?

Loo, go to the small company. Here's why from my experience:

- less office politics, more close knit group

- more flexible with deadlines

- opportunity to do even more tasks to pad your resume

- growth as you say

- a new challenge

- more time to post on the IC

Do whatever your heart tells you (no homo)

Oh yeah, ask them if they're willing to increase a little bit or throw more vacation days. Or maybe even throw in an Ipad in there.

But the starting pay is half what I make now.

There is real potential for growth though, they are expanding crazy fast.

So do I get on my Pursuit of Happyness hustle and grind out the low pay til I get my moment to shine

or do I keep looking for a new gig. They offered the job and I told them I'll call back in a few hours...

Nope - it's not something you should leave your current job for - too risky. Try to take it up as a second job.

Yeah....my last 2 I.T. jobs have been at smaller companies and I've been able to pad the shit out of my resume.

What do you do and where did you work?

Depends on your hustle game. Just remember that with growing companies, there are a lot of growing pains, and it might not be your cup of tea to take a huge pay cut AND have to work in an ambiguous environment with no real guarantee of promotion. Seems like they're lowballing you, as do a lot of "growing" companies.
