Check out this website called glassdoor.com. You can read anonymous reviews on companies posted by prior/current employees. It can sort of help you gauge any issues going on within the company and determine whether or not it's something you're willing to tolerate. That's how I learned a company I received a job offer from was currently under a pay freeze.

Never throw away an opportunity for money now for a potential of money later. Can't pay bills with maybe money.
