Jeru deals with things beyond the physical body ..If you ain't into spirituality then you won't fuck with it...
Its like a monk who has given up sex ,junk food, entertainment, material possessions to meditate all day trying to explain why he do what he do to a person who loves all of the temptations of this world..That regular Nigga in the world ain't gonna understand that shit..it's not for him and her..
That's another reason that jeru shit ain't sell ..because people ain't ready to go to that level in life..spirituality is boring to people..they rather be ignorant
Yeah but here's the thing. I was into all that metaphysical shit that Jeru was talking about but at the same time I was at home living with my folks. When I moved out on my own and started to struggle that shit that Biggie, Ma$e and Jay was talking about started to make more sense. They were talking about getting money, hoes and driving nice cars. But they were talking about that over East Coast Boom bap beats.
Same with KRS. He was talking about a lot of metaphysical stuff that was supposed to make you think but after a while I lost interest.
Truth be told I started off in the early 90s listening to X Clan and Brand Nubian but by the end of the decade I was bumping Biggie and Jay Z. I remember when Blackstar came out and everybody made a big deal about it but I just wasn't in a place emotionally or spiritually to listen to it. I was fixated on how Puffy, Master P and Jay Z were making millions off of Hip Hop and I just wasn't interested in what Rawkus was putting out.
