But in all honesty, if you wanna bring up Here My Dear though, I think that's comparable to Kanye's 808 and MBDTF. Both dealing with relationships. However, Marvin's had a stronger theme, and dealt with love from a more mature viewpoint.
I think Kanye's grown in terms of production. On the rapping side, technically to me he's gotten better, but yeah I don't think the subject matter's grown.
I feel like in the past artists, even though they got famous and no doubt succumbed to all the ills/rewards of a moneyed life, could still reach within them or observe the general world, and pull from that. Kanye, Jay etc are just pulling from that moneyed, celebrity life. Oh and Ye with his failed relationships.
Also, don't really think Jay-Z's grown too much musically, although he's good for dropping a jewel or two amidst all the BS.
Most of these artists today seem completely disconnected from the real world.
