Your best bet is to get to the cops or hospital as soon as possible to have a rape kit done and have the clothes you wore examined; the sooner the better.

Not once have I blamed the victim for what happened to them. However, every victim of a crime has a duty to report it to the cops as fast as possible. If the victim of a rape or any crime waits to report it then they are directly responsible for the rapist walking away without consequence. The victim DOES deserve blame for that, but not for the actual crime committed against them.

Okay what I said is for the women who report rapes how many wait - that's what I said. If they don't report the rape at all that has nothing to do with waiting. I know the overwhelming majority of women who are sexually assaulted do not report it AT ALL. What I was asking you is for those who do report it what makes you think most of them wait?

They are to blame when the rapist walks away without consequence. Nothing more.

I get that it's a traumatic experience and all considering that males are also reluctant to come forward when they've been raped. However, it has to be stressed that justice cannot be served if you wait to file charges and if you wait too long and you lose the right to file charges all together. This is why only ONE chick that accused Cosby was able to file criminal charges. How is that justice???!!! Suck it up, get to the cops, get the kit done, and deal with the rest afterwards. Unfortunately this is what has to be done, there's no other way.

If you get that it's traumatic then you should also get the pointlessness of placing blame onto somebody who just experienced a traumatic effect and not reacting in a rational manner...especially a traumatic effect that can shape the rest of your life

The blame is squarely where it belongs. The rapist is to blame for the crime being committed in the first place, the victim is to blame if he/she gets off without incident because they didn't report it in a timely manner. There's just no getting around that.

Sometimes you just gotta power through some shit no matter how distasteful, disturbing, or what have you. Some things have to be done no matter what; this is one of them.

You're very much oversimplifying the trauma a person's mind goes through after being raped and the aftermath of dealing with it.

No I'm not. Some shit you just gotta do no matter what. You can make all the excuses in the world you want, but in order for a rapist to be charged with a crime there are steps that have to be taken in a timely manner otherwise he/she will get off. If you don't do it quickly, or are unwilling to do it, then keep it to yourself and move forward with your life. It's the same with any other crime committed against you.

I'm not denying certain steps have to be taken in order to be prosecuted for a crime. What you seem to be lacking in understanding is how difficult that is and why some people choose not to. You're so bent on assigning blame that you're missing the point
