LOL at having to have the same skin tone or look like the person to play that role, that's so fucking retarded.

Zoey Saldana is one of the few black actress in Hollywood who has any commercial appeal, who the fuck did you think they were gonna put in there, India Arie. lmfao

It's a like dramatization in documentaries.

You want the most accurate actor to play that person to a tee

Skintone and everything.

Brah, looks has nothing to do with how a person should be casted for the role. Do you know how many historical roles have been casted where the lead actor/actress looks nothing like the person that they are casted for. The point is to cast the person who can best capture the person, not who looks most like them.

By that rationale, you'd have no issue with Brad Pitt portrayin' Malcolm X?

SMH at your dumb logic and hyperbole. No Brad Pitt shouldn't play Malcom X, but i see no reason why Taye Diggs, etc could if they can pull off the role. I mean ya'll are getting way too technical with this shit, she is black what more do you want.

The issue here is that they cast an extremely pretty and very light woman to play a really ugly and dark bitch...In essence, its pretty much the same as a white actor playin' a black...The reason its the same is the reason behind the choice of actress...they didn't cast Saldana coz she's the best actress, or coz she's the best for the role...they cast her because they didn't think a dark and ugly woman could lead a big budget Hollywood picture...

I'll be honest, she not light skin, but she's not Nina Simone's complexion either. I can see past that though if she can pull it off.

Niggas mad and can't even agree is Zoe is light skin or not lol...that right there keeps hinting that it's more because she's latina than anything else. If you can't see past the complexion that's your own fault. @Cellar-door...you going to hate Laurence Fishburne too for playing Ike Turner?

Nina Simone’s daughter speaks out on casting of Zoe Saldana in mother’s biopic: ‘We were ignored’

The one actress that I’ve had in my heart for a very long time, whose work I’m familiar with already, is Kimberly Elise. Many people have spoken to me about Viola. I love her look. I love her energy. Both of the actresses that I’ve mentioned are women of color, are women with beautiful, luscious lips and wide noses, and who know their craft.

Viola Davis just came off two big roles where she showed she is a top shelf actress, The Help and Doubt.. I don't see how she couldn't be a draw.

LOL at Viola Davis being the draw for The Help and Doubt, stop the nonsense. Meryl Streep, Phillip Seymor Hoffman, and Emma Stone were the leads in those movies.

The last movie Viola Davis started by herself was WONT BACK DOWN and the total box office sales were 5 million dollars. What studio you think is gonna financially back a movie staring her.

She was the talk of the town for both performances. That's not to take away from the stars of the movies. She also showed her acting abilities.

That doesn't mean she can lead a movie though, very few black actors can (Denzel, Will, Wesley, etc). She is one of those black actors who will always get supporting roles (like Anthony Mckie), but they aren't lead actors.

Fussy black people they actually want a African American to play a African American there never happy .....is this wat im hearing?get the pretty mixed girl to play the dark skin bear woman they can't tell

Kate Hudson

Renee Zellweger

Uma Thurman

Sarah Jessica Parker

The same people who complain about shit like this are the same ones who demand ''black movies'' like Amistad and they don't support shit. Hollywood only gives a fuck about green, not black.

I was thinking the same shit, zoe saldana a brown skin mullato who is skinny as fukk is the best they can do..

Nothing against zoe, but there are plenty of black actresses out there that would fit nina's role...like yall said viola Davis and the other chick with curls on the first page would be excellent fits....

Yeah, bruh...that's the issue...They chose Saldana not because she's the best for the role...but because it will appease white America...I've no issue with Saldana...she's a good actress...pretty as fuck and I'd definitely smash the juice outta her...I'm sure she'll do a bangin' job.

And her bein' too pretty is a secondary issue to her bein' too light...The white community doesn't have the strainin' issue of complexion that blacks have.

And in answer to your question,

that ho' from Burn After Reading

that ho' from In Her Shoes

Keira Knightly is no preemi

neither is Uma Thurman
