There are some clueless motherfuckers in this thread. Anyone remember the Hunger Games controversy because white people were in uproar because the characters were black? You all know damn well movies with leading black actors sell less than movies with leading white actors. And that's a fact. Ignorant white people have always loved the light skinned blacks over the dark skinned blacks, i.e, the house vs field nigga argument, the brown paper bag test, grandfather clauses, the whole team light skinned vs team dark skinned beef.

This shit isn't new. I don't understand the argument that we should be happy they are doing a biopic on a black woman. So are we supposed to just accept anything? Although I am disappointed they did not pick someone who looks like Nina, I understand where the directors were coming from. You should be mad at society for its ignorant bullshit, not the directors.

We don't live in a post racial society. Shit isn't as bad as the 60's and whatnot, but you know damn well racism still exists.

Shit is racist...But...Them Hollywood execs don'y care about race...for them its not about the art...Its about gwup...so from their perspective, whether you think they underestimate America or if they're right...you an understand them

LOL at having to have the same skin tone or look like the person to play that role, that's so fucking retarded.

Zoey Saldana is one of the few black actress in Hollywood who has any commercial appeal, who the fuck did you think they were gonna put in there, India Arie. lmfao

It's a like dramatization in documentaries.

You want the most accurate actor to play that person to a tee

Skintone and everything.

Brah, looks has nothing to do with how a person should be casted for the role. Do you know how many historical roles have been casted where the lead actor/actress looks nothing like the person that they are casted for. The point is to cast the person who can best capture the person, not who looks most like them.

This is true but most disagree.

By that rationale, you'd have no issue with Brad Pitt portrayin' Malcolm X?

SMH at your dumb logic and hyperbole. No Brad Pitt shouldn't play Malcom X, but i see no reason why Taye Diggs, etc could if they can pull off the role. I mean ya'll are getting way too technical with this shit, she is black what more do you want.

Oddly enough...this thread reminded me of when I noticed that they had a white president in Dark Knight Rises...

...but yeah, this is pretty fucked up.

In X-Men First Class when Sebastian Shaw was tellin' them new recruits that the humans will eventually turn on mutants...and he says that they'll turn mutants into slaves...

Whose face does the camera pan to?

The only nigga in the film

Yessss. I noticed that too.

Lol @ Zoey having to resort to Blackface.

By ya'll definition, Tyrese should of played Tupac in the the Pac movie. lmfao

Be serious niggas!

Funny you say that. Pac was originally supposed to be Jody in Baby Boy.

Lol, they had Pac looking like a gap toothed victim in Notorious. Smh. Anthony Mackie is a good actor though.

The issue here is that they cast an extremely pretty and very light woman to play a really ugly and dark bitch...In essence, its pretty much the same as a white actor playin' a black...The reason its the same is the reason behind the choice of actress...they didn't cast Saldana coz she's the best actress, or coz she's the best for the role...they cast her because they didn't think a dark and ugly woman could lead a big budget Hollywood picture...

And even aside from the complexion, the two look absolutely nothin' alike...It'd be like gettin' Chris Brown to portray Puff Daddy

Edit: Nah Puff isn't ugly enough...nh...it'd be more like Brown portrayin' Biggie

Can Zoe sing? The thing about Jamie Fox playing Ray Charles is that Jamie actually has talent and showed his acting chops even in previous work like Collateral. What has Zoe done that indicates that she has the acting ability even? Columbiana?

I'll be honest, she not light skin, but she's not Nina Simone's complexion either. I can see past that though if she can pull it off.

Angela basset cant sing, but she killed the tina turner part, and Laurence fishburne is wayyyyyyyy lighter than Ike and cant sing either, but nobody said a word, cuz they are african AMERICANS, this is more about people being ignorant to the fact that u dont have to be an african american to be black..

And to be clear...I'm not in anyway sayin' that Saldana won't perform marvellously...She could very well give the performance of her life and blow us all outta the water...

She just put herself in a bit of a tangle by acceptin' the role
