I could see if rosario dawson or mariah carey was portraying nina simone....theyre very lightskinned and nina simone was very dark.

Zoe saldana is black tho.....she brown. The producers want a cute chick in the movie...nina simone was kinda "rough around the edges" so they want the movie to have a good lookin chick, its hollywood.

I see no problem here. Do yall think somebody like india arie or whoopi goldberg would be a better fit for the role?

I dont care either way tbh, chances are I wont see this movie. This was a long thread tho, so I wanted to give my insight.

Im just sayin, you cant really go wrong with whoopi or zoe saldana, they bring two different things to the table.

Zoe is basically there for her pretty face, whereas whoopi goldberg would have been a better actress. Obviously the producers are going for first week box office sales instead of making a quality film.

Niggas aren't mad that the actual story is being fucked up and they're literally re-writing the woman's life to put in a pointless love story...they not mad that an actress with questionable acting skills is getting the role...nobody was upset when Mary J Blige was originally cast in the role (can Mary J even act let alone pull off a role like this), niggas just want any random dark skin woman to play the role lol...

Word. A pointless love story with her gay manager, is quite appalling. Including having Zoe in black face is despicable. But, another white women is directing and writing our story is crazy to me. However, I am glad many african americans are speaking out about this and boycotting the movie. Even, Nina's estate is not allowing this movie to use any of her music nor do they endorse it.

Part of the reason her daughter is pissed is because of the changing of her life and adding in the love story aspect. The statement I saw had her speaking out about that more than who was actually playing the role

Latino is an ethnicity, Black is a race. It's possible to be both, since "Latino" and "Black" are in two different categories.

And I seen darkskinned Latinos display racism towards Black folks as well. I'm part Cuban btw.
