Getting roles in hollywood are a mix of production selection, studio mandate, talent management, and most importantly NAME RECOGNITION. If you cant sell tickets, no high powered talent management, less chance of directors wanting you, less chance of studios backing you.

Zoe is a Black Dominican. So it's not that there are no Black actresses.

It's just that the producers and the director want a Black actress lighter than Nina Simone to market it to white audiences, as darker black skin and African features are deemed unattractive and unmarketable to an international audience.

i sat my ass down and enjoyed 300 even though i knew that the movie was complete ass cheeks. Pearl Harbor was meh. Watchmen, like many other movies based on an original source, wasn't completely accurate either. But I accepted each movie for what it was. If you're really dying to see a historically accurate Nina Simone biopic, then just wait another day and maybe hope that it's an independent film. Or make your own. Or support others who want to make their own.
