hold on. you replied TO ME. if you want to make it strictly about the thread-starter, fine. but you don't get to direct a response at my post and then go "wait wait i'm not talking to you."JokerzWyld;c-9558905 said:Firstly, my critique was for the T/S and his ilk, not the interlopers.
secondly, you are aware that Castro just died in 2016, whereas Trujillo and Duvalier predate the very existence of the AHH forums by a slight amount, right? so the argument is that to criticize a dictator that JUST died, i have to go out and write a thread criticizing the excesses of Rafael Trujillo? do you know how ridiculous that sounds?JokerzWyld;c-9558905 said:Secondly, show me the threads condemning Trujillo, Duvalier, etc.
but again, and here's the point that was glossed over, you can criticize the US, the DR, whoever AND Castro at the same time. they're not mutually exclusive, and pointing out the US's misdeeds does not mean "oh, well then it doesn't matter what Castro did." if you'd like to make a more nuanced argument as to why the US embargo required Fidel to remain Dictator For Life, please proceed. but all i am hearing is "but but the US has done some shit."
so your statement was "The better question is why they responded to this specific dictator with those international pressures (assassination attempts, embargoes, etc.)" and when i point out that you literally name-dropped a guy the CIA supposedly worked to assassinate, instead of saying "okay, i guess he wasn't NEVER the victim of international pressures," you say "well, they also stopped a plot against him earlier." moving the goalposts just a little, no?JokerzWyld;c-9558905 said:In regard to the coup against Trujillo, the US prior to that, stopped a plotted coup against him. You may sound smart to someone who is dumb, but not to me.
