I agree that they could've maybe found somebody else, BUT people love just throwing names out there. I would like to know who actually auditioned before just saying that so and so could've done it. I saw somebody say Lauryn Hill could've played her. Cmon now... The way niggas been talking shit about Lauryn man.. If she would've gotten in there and stunk it up niggss would've been upset. You can't just pick a person because they look like somebody. Idris Elba did not look like Mandela. Will Smith didn't look like Ali. Jamie Foxx didn't look like Ray.

The fact that other actors don't look exactly like who they play in biopics ain't the point. In THIS case, so much of nina simone music was about how she looked as a dark skinned black woman and how she and others are treated for being dark and black. Choosing a light skinned woman is a slap in the face.
This reminds me of that cosby show episode where vanessa got married outa nowhere and brought dude home to her family. Cliff was like if a waiter brought you your favorite dish cooked to perfection on a garbage can lid, would you still eat that shit or find it appetizing? The shit might still taste amazing, but if the presentation is off you ain't even gon wana chance it.
