Anyone that listens to Gucci Mane other than wanting a really good laugh is an imbecile in my eyes. I really don't think I need to explain.

why is that though?

college graduates and students all listen to Gucci.

Maybe they like his beats or hooks.

Why would they have to be an imbecile?

The music you listen to is a representation of yourself.

If you listen to music that others consider unintelligent, or garbage etc then you're just as unintelligent, or garbage etc.

so if niggas told you because you listen to *insert your fav MC*, you are dumb its rue?

No. That's wack. I love making friends with all types of people. Having different music tastes is a way for me to diversify friends. . .

I didn't say that it's true. I just explained the concept of how people can build their perception of you by your taste in music.

Why do you judge a person on anything?

I judge people on their music and all round style too.........with 1st impressions and the few next impressions and so on and so on.

I've lived 22 years and I don't think it's a coincidence the people I fuck with the most, (friends if you'd like), all generally dress similar and listen to similar music too me, just maybe not as diverse, generally its just one side of the scales (either wu-tang or wayne, not both).

I won't really shut someone out or down due to their music tastes but yes, I can most definately say that someones taste in music reflects and represents who someone is.

You listenin to Abba and reppin it, along with the stupid shit you confess and rep........maybe that goes hand in hand.

i listen to whatever i want to.My friends stay making comments about it too. It depends on what Im feeling at the particular moment..If Im feeling stupid, i'll listen to some Gucci, if Im feeling serious, I'll listen to some Dead Prez..If Im feeling melancholy, I'll listen to some Oasis, or Depeche Mode. When I think about growing up, I'll listen to some Santana, or Fleetwood Mac.Who the fuk cares what anyone thinks? People will always have an opinion about something no matter what you do, so to hell wit em.

Music is not just entertainment. It's a mathematical science and also a form of communication. Music too pleases the human mind by confirming its anticipation of sound patterns. In other words, once the human mind hears a pattern, example: 1 1, 2 2, 1 1, it expects the next beat to be 2 2. When anticipation is met, pleasure ensues. Through many variations of an essentially recognizable pattern, musicians can create a mathematical message the human mind enjoys to subconsciously analyze. Music is a form of pattern-matching training, which is paramount for natural language.

The lyrics and nature of the song in general can tell alot about a person by whether they enjoy it or not. To use Gucci Mane as an example, he talks about absolute nonsense and ridiculous shit that if someone actually enjoys that music, it tells me, atleast what I get from it, that they are extremely simple minded. If they enjoy the simple keyboard made types of beats Gucci Mane has, then I don't think they would actually be a gucci mane fan, but just enjoy the beats. But unless you listen to his instrumentals all day, then the horrid lyrics come with the beats... and I can personally say, that I dont care how sick the beat is on a song, if the lyrics are just ridiculous or I can't relate in anyway, I wont enjoy the song.

It's like death metal music, for the most part it's mostly about suicide, depression, satan worship, etc... it's all very low frequency messages over harsh loud and 'violent' noise. Why that type of music would appeal to someone who doesn't enjoy that type of environment in real life, I don't know... This is why I drifted away from Hip Hop music during the mid to late 90s... it went from revolutionary/expressive music to glorifying a lifestyle no-one in the hood could ever relate to. This is one reason why we got so many young drug dealers and gangsters and murders running around the hood, because they think bling bling is all that matters in life... Music can be extremely dangerous as well in that way. Like anything, it all depends who is pulling the trigger or driving the wheel. A really good example of what takes place in the music industry has been communicated through the song "Dumb it Down" by Lupe Fiasco.

In my own personal preferences I enjoy high spirited, uplifting and liberating music such as House, Reggae, and REAL Hip Hop, only a selective few rock songs or bands I can tolerate and I'm not really into that whole fantasy so-called romantic R&B music, but maybe a couple songs might catch my ear. This is because I don't enjoy misery, pain, depression, gore, or being evil in any way. I prefer to be happy and I tend to gravitate towards happy things and people. I can't even remember the last time I've been angry or sad to the point where it stuck with me for more then 15 minutes.

First of all, listening to ABBA doesn't make you gay. Wanting to fuck someone who is the same sex makes you gay. Or, if you go by the other definition of gay, it is possible because it means "happy, joyful", and you just may be a really happy person and love that upbeat ABBA sound. Now, for whatever reason you listen to ABBA is your business.

As far as judging, everyone judges. Judging is how you make decisions in your life. If you get bit by a dog, you are scared of most dogs from then on. Is it fair? Not particularly...but it's instinct and a way of survival. Now, because humans can go a little beyond that, as our species is the shit these days (arguably), we judge beyond instincts and take it further - to social cliques, politics, networking, etc.

Then, mass media come into play and reinforces stereotypes. The media, whether you realize it or not, tell you what to associate with another. Whether you believe it or not is up to you, but we are so surrounded by it in today's world that it is hard to fight, even if you are aware of the brainwashing.

The point is, everyone judges and the difference is respect and not assuming. Your friend's initial reaction to your liking ABBA may be that you're gay, but (s)he must quickly realize that he doesn't KNOW you or your reasons for liking ABBA and beyond that, (s)he should respect you as a person enough to still hold his/her own opinion, but respect you enough as a person not to assume that his opinion is the truth.

Based on the music they listen to?

My friend said i was gay because i listen to ABBA.

Weird cuz i know alot of older people who listen to ABBA but never anyone my age.

To me its good music though.

I noticed on this Hip Hop forum that niggas tend to thinkless of niggs who listen to Gucci Mane.

If you do judge a person by the music they listen to, why do you do it?

Because it's natural. Same when I see them with the way they dress/talk.

It's just being a natural human, you stereotype them into a group of people you think they are. When you see a frail grandmother walking with a self-made knitted sweater do you think she can cook good homemade food and cookies? Sure you do, we're programmed to judge like that whether it's good or bad.

Music can't make you gay, but gay people do listen to a certain type of music. Just like a goth person would, or emo person, or gangster, or whoever else...
