When Did You Start Rooting for Your Favorite Team?

Early 90's

When I first started going to Nuggets games we had Cadillac Anderson and Mahmoud Abdul Rauf was known as Chris Jackson. That's like the 91-92 season. It was before they changed to the dark blue uni's. I remember sitting in literally the top row, cheapest seats possible at like 7 years old. 90's were rough. When I was that young the Nuggets lost every single time I went to a game at McNichols. Still rocked with 'em. We had a new coach every few years shit was ridiculous.

Broncos probably a couple years after that (Mid 90's). I was a Jerry Rice/Steve Young fan as a kid. I loved their style and the throwbacks they wore in 94. Only football jersey I ever had was a red Jerry Rice 75th Anniversary Throwback.

Kicked into high gear the first year we got Terrell Davis. It was amazing to see him steal some shine from John Elway in the city.

Not gonna front most of my fav teams started because of a player but they'll never change now. I'm a military kid so I really don't have a place I'm "from" even though I consider Pittsburgh/Dallas my "homes".

Rockets- When t-mac got there. But since this nigga never played I had to become a fan of the actual team and it's been that way ever since. My dad is a dickrider and he bounces from team to team so I can't follow that nigga. He was a bulls fan now he's a lakers fan.

Eagles- When Mcnabb got there, I grew up around steelers fans and I was a big fan of Kordell Stewart but I never really had a team.

Pittsburgh Panthers- Since I was in elementary school. All those years watching them play miami/vt in the big east made me a fan. I tried to stop liking these niggas plenty times when it comes to football, but I can't.

Pittsburgh Penguins- ever since I got into hockey about 4 or 5 years ago.

Chelsea- ever since I started watching soccer 3 years ago. I hate man u and ronaldo so..

Broncos fan when I was 8. Didn't like football until I watched the superbowl with the packers and just randomly started rooting for them and was a Terrell Davis fan.

New Orleans Hornets fan since they moved. And Duke bball fan since 97.

Chargers fan since 20001-2002, I was in middle school at the time Terrell Davis was my favorite but the torn acls took his career and that was really my only reason for rooting for Denver... So when he finally called quits, I was at home and NFL Yearbook came on showing the Chargers and they were like 1-15, my affinity with underdogs and the color scheme truly glamorized to me despite they sucked... Also them being the only team in So CaL, I been with them ever since sadly lol... I love my bolts, it's been rough tho the past 3 years smh

Dodgers- elementary school read the book on Jackie Robinson it was a wrap after... My name is Joe Robinson, so I was always comparing me to him, plus dodger blue! That's been my squad since Mike Piazza was catching

LA Kings- Moms had me and my lil bro back in 1990 rocking the starter Kings sweatsuit with the LA gear buzzlightyears.... Never knew another thing about hockey since

LA LAKERS- funny thing is I started out a Laker hater like a lot of you... My entire family is LAKER'd out excluding my hater uncle, I always wanted to be the opposite so I was the biggest Kings fan in the house in 2001... C Webb was my fukcin guy yo and I couldn't stand Shaq... Once Webb tore the acl and shipped to Philly I stopped claiming a team just rooted for Kobe, then they traded Shaq... As I said I love underdogs and wanted Kobe to succeed without Shaq so I finally came out the closet to my family and professed my true love for purple and gold and its been there ever since... I don't consider myself a hopper tho, my hometown team, my family's team, I always bled purp and gold even rooting for SAC, I just wanted to be diff, nowadays I just want to be a champion, the definition of a laker!

Lmao...btw your explanation for hopping from one rival to another is wack.

Lol that analogy actually fits the situation tho. I'm still trying to figure out when the Lakers were a underdog

So the Kwame Brown/ Smush Parker era was just a juggernaut rite.... Luke Walton was a top sf at the time and Brian Grant was the most dominate inside prescience in the league at the time carrying Kobe to the 8th seed and even missin the offs as well

Some of these responses tho, thing is, i'm not even suprised

I was always an undercover lover of the Lakers, I just liked being an outkast and liked to go against any1 for any reason... Only reason I didn't want to be a Laker.... Same reason a lot of people dislike them, but really love them on the low.... I didn't like blending in at skool with all the kids I liked to stand alone.. As I got older and since Kobe was my guy, I was trying to resist the fact that born bred Laker... I just liked being the odd man of the fam as I was young... As I got older,I just knew I was a Laker I watched more Laker games than any and I was just in denial about liking Sacramento... I never even been to Sac it's nowhere near us in So Cal... I couldn't connect fully with an out of town team... I just began to embrace where I from and the Lakers are the definition of California

Was born into it. Growing up in Wilmington, DE meant you had Philly teams in your face all day.

So, much respect is due to these dudes, who were the first superstars of the area I can remember:

(I even watched this dude's Saturday morning kids-themed game show called "Scramble")

NY Giants

NY Yankees

Rutgers

NY Rangers

Prety much from the day I was born...

New York Red Bulls (back when they was the Metrostars) when MLS first started

Chicago Bulls (only non-local team I root for) 1989.

Carolina Panthers

Charlotte Bobcats

UNC Tarheels

Atlanta Braves

Panthers, Bobcats, and Tarheels because I'm from NC. Was a Hornets fan until they moved, when they moved I dropped them. I'm a Braves fan because they're the closes MLB team to NC, plus I feel the braves are the south's team.

What Ted Turner did with the Braves via TNT/TBS is borderline brilliant. Only the Yankees, and maybe Redsox can claim more out of state fans. And he only won one championship, so you know it ain't your typical "they got rings" bandwagonery.

And none of those fans are old enough to have seen the greatest Bravo of all time...

Ted Turner's business acumen >>>>>

And you wouldn't know it from meeting him. (hint: the Family Guy portrayal of him is not an exaggeration. lol.)

I've been a Lakers, Dodgers and Packers fan since '97.

I remember crying as a child when Utah swept us in the Conference Finals.
