When and why exactly did Andre 3000 end up anywhere close to the greats ?!?

we all know wayne didn't progress from verses like "Na, na, na, na, na / After you back it up, then stop / Then wha-wha-what / Dro-drop it like it's hot" to what he is now all by himself. A lot of other men's pens, flows and beats got him there no doubt.

that's a verse to you? that's nothing more than some shit at the end of a song...

[Verse One: Andre]

Yeah
Oh yes I love her like Egyptian, want a description, my royal highness
So many plusses when I bust that there can't be no minus
Went from yellin crickets and crows, bitches and hoes to queen thangs
Over the years I been up on my toes and yes I seen thangs
like Kilroy, chill boi because them folks might think you soft
talkin like that, man fuck them niggaz I'm goin off
and comin right back, like boomerangs when you throw em
With these old ghetto poems, Bankhead is better for em
When they can let they throw em, down from hitchikin and bitin niggaz
until the temple they call the body, now everybody got it
Had it, talked about it amongst they friends
Comin around my crew lookin Jazzy, wanna pretend
like you Ms. Goodie, Four-Shoes, even Bo knew, that you got poked
like accupuncture patients while our nation is a boat
Straight sinkin, I hate thinkin that these the future mommas
of our chillun, they fuckin a different nigga every time
they get the feelin to, I'm willin to go the extra kilo-meter
just to see my senorita get her pillow
on the side of my bed where no good ever stay
House and doctor was the games we used to play
but now it's real Jazzy Belle...

Jazzybelle is easily one of the best songs Outkast has made...

lyrically he prolly better than DMX and cube........them niggas brought energy.........but on a whole, wide range as far as complete package.........i can see how niggas wouldnt agree with that

he's a great lyricist no doubt.Very versatile with a variety of flows, but really is overrated on the net with Nas (not hating on Nas cause he's in my top 3, but most people make out he does not wrong on his albums..).He's not in the top 5.He hasn't released a solo hip hop album (you can't count love below) and he dosen't always kill big boi.I put Mos Def over Andre 3000 and Kweli.

3:03 mark

Yea I aint even no outkast fan like that and I can admit Dmx is much, much worst than big boi and dre

It hilarious how people overrate dmx that nigga garbage he had its dark and hell is hot which is a raw classic album that came out in may 98

Thats it

Holy hell, thx for giving me the time marker, I couldnt sit thru that whole song. Yeah, he progressed since then, but the C4 material isn't a too much of a stretch from back then

And why is niggas shittin on DMX? His first 3 albums are classics/near classics. And the rest outside of his last album were dope too. He couldve been a GOAT contender if he wasnt such a nutcase.

Cosign the bolded

Lord have mercy based OFF WHAT?

Could've been. He was doing Em/Nelly numbers by being himself and keeping it hood. Him and Jay was the only street niggas with the pop charts on lock. He was gettin love by all audiences. And he had shitloads of classic songs/verses. If he kept that streak going he would've been up there.

6 albums?

Southernplayalistic - carried by Big Boi

ATLiens - split

Aquemini - split even though Dre doesnt rap on every track

Stankonia - carrried by Big Boi and guests cuz Dre doesnt rap on every track

Speakerboxxx/ Love Below - a cd of Big Boi rapping and a cd of Dre singing

Dre is a great lyricist who uses scarcity to make himself more valuable. The number of 16s he's spit in his career is laughable when compared to other emcees in the top 10 (other than BIG). I'm a quality over quantity fan, but Jay and Nas have more than 400 songs each where they're spitting 2-3 16's per song.

Under no circumstances am I putting somebody with such a light body of work over them.

this is the only post that needs to be read about this topic. can't believe people are comparing Andre 3000 to DMX & Cube.

When has 3000 dropped a "Slippin", a "Get a me Dog", a "What These Bitches Want", a "I Miss You", a "How its Going Down"

When has 3000 dropped a "Today was a Good Day", "Check Yourself", "Cave Bitch", "No Vaseline", "True to the Game".

Yall really need to shut the fuck up.

He may be part of a group, but he wasn't no weedholder. That last song may be offbeat as fuck, but he shitted on a lot of comments in this thread.

And, I just read the OP. SMH @ kids these days.

Jazzy Belle is actually one of favorite songs. As is Get up, Get out.....but, nah. I said ANDRE 3000. not OUTKAST. What has he done as a solo artist to warrant being put over niggas who dominated as solo artists. This is akin to comparing Beyonce to Mary J. Blige back in 2001 before Beyonce was a solo artist and saying "well....Destiny's Child was one of the hottest groups". It aint the same my nigga.

damn lol....them jawns was smooth as fuck lol.

i still got to stand by my point. it aint right nor fair. with every other group artist, hip hop, r&b, etc., the general consensus has always been...."yea yall were nice together, but can you do it on your own. can you can be a star without them?"

but people want to give Andre an exception.

if he raps better than everyone else, does it matter if he did it on a solo or group album? Andre gets respect for bein great at his craft. It doesnt matter what context its in.

You gotta take in account what he did for that group. That's one of the greatest groups ever, that's not gonna come from two average dudes. Big Boi to me is on par with Dre, but Dre's guest verses throughout the years made a little more noise than Big's solo album, which is a shame cuz no one really put Big Boi in the same light, which I think he should be even tho I prefer Dre out the two. And it's not easy to stand out in a group (word to Mef, Rae and Ghost). You see that Beyonce had the potential to be great out of all those girls, even though she was in a group. I don't think his solo legacy surpasses Jay or Nas, but he can definitely stand toe to toe with them lyrically. He just needs to build his own foundation musically, which honestly, with all the acting and side deals, I don't think he's ready for.
