Rape almost always boils down to he said/she said shit. What happens when a chick accuses a powerful man of rape and he uses his resources to get him acquitted?
Attaching a punishment to a false accusation would make it so that man could turn around and use his resources to bring charges against her. It's already hard enough for some chicks to come forward, something like that would make it even harder.
There is also the other side. Not all the chicks that lie get busted in their lie. Sometimes, they just come clean on their own. If they felt like they'd be punished, they might not do that, and more innocent men would wind up remaining in jail.
When the police confronted her with the evidence, she admitted she had made up allegations. Fitzgerald said had she recanted immediately, she might not have been charged. But after months of investigation, they had no choice but to arrest her.
I don't know if you can sue a false accuser in Civil court, but maybe that would be a better route to go than criminal court.

Yeah this is an issue that would need to be addressed. If a man is acquitted but it's one of those "You're found not guilty in a court of law but we still know you did some shit" then how would that work?

It would be no different than any other crime in that regard. If you have the resources you can likely get away with a lot of shit short of tax evasion and insider trading ('cause the IRS and SEC WILL get yo' ass). It's the reason a cat facing drug charges with a good, well connected lawyer can get off with probation and a cat with a public defender facing the exact same charges with similar circumstances will sit in prison for the next decade.
Shit, I caught a felony case when I was 20 and was facing 4 years in Jackson State. I ended up with not one, but two lawyers 'cause it so happened my moms was dating a very well connected lawyer and one of his boys was a lawyer that was even more connected around Detroit and it so happened that he also caught a similar case when he was 20. The cops had coerced a confession outta me so everyone initially though the shit was a slam dunk during the arraignment... Then my lawyers picked up the phone and started calling in favors. In the end they got my case suspended pending good behavior for a year, and then had it dismissed and expunged from my record; I was even delivered my fingerprint card from the precinct.
Lotta dudes out there spent them years in prison for the same charge but not me because of the connections I just happened to have.

The only way it makes it harder is if she knows her accusation is some bullshit, plain and simple. Rape accusations would stop being used as a weapon for revenge or to save face because a chick regrets fuckin a random dude in the car after the club let out. Women who were actually, factually raped have nothing to worry about and can come forward with their cases without fear.

The only time they ever really come clean is when too many questions are asked and their lie starts to unravel, like this one:

When the police confronted her with the evidence, she admitted she had made up allegations. Fitzgerald said had she recanted immediately, she might not have been charged. But after months of investigation, they had no choice but to arrest her.
This is usually the case. Some chicks, however, maintain the lie and end up sending cats to prison so we still get innocent men locked up.

Doesn't matter if you can. If I falsely accuse you of beating your woman's ass I can be charged with filing a false police report. The difference between that, or any other crime for that matter, is that a false rape charge has ramifications for the accused that they may never recover from. Lost jobs are rarely ever given back, people that know of the accusation may never fully trust you, you can end up with severe PTSD-like mental issues, and you may wind up in such a deep state of depression that you might kill yourself.
For that reason, suing a chick in court simply will never do; she has to go to prison.
