The irony of this whole conversation is that people believe change will come by sitting at home. These same people that claim voting doesn't matter only vote in presidential elections. These same people that claim voting doesn't count couldn't name their state reps without a Google search. It's like getting upset at a TV that doesn't work because u haven't plugged it in.

They repeat talking points and make false equivalencies instead of actually researching. It's hilarious and sad at the same time.

Is this what you tell yourself to justify voting for your own oppression? People like you have a hard time grasping, that the point of view presented in this thread is one that is further along than yours. We've already been where you are. We just continued to evolve, and understand that this status quo shit isn't getting the results that we want, so what do we do? We change up our strategy. Simple.

Most people who consciously choose not to vote are far more knowledgeable than your average, go with the flow voter. Smart individuals don't denounce something without doing the research. Your assumptions are way off base.

Black people do not exercise their power. We've been convinced that voting is the ultimate power of the people. Never questioning who told us this nor really understanding how laws come about and how power is exchanged in this society.

Black people can actually learn how the system works instead of just goin by what they momma, daddy, preacher man, and white man told them.

After we learn how the system works we have to be futurists, visionaries. Black people are reactionaries which means that by the time we move on something it's too late.

We have to look toward a future and design a future where we can flip the script.

For example the world is on the verge of a paradigm shift. We are about to go through another industrial revolution where human labor is going to be replaced by robotic and AI labor.

Knowing this information how can we act to make sure that when shit gets shaken up again we dont end up on the bottom again?

I believe we can and will ultimately create our own system. The seeds are being sown as we speak.

When dealing with any kind of system or game I always knew that there were players, coaches, and owners. But then one day I realized that there is also the creator(s) of the game.

We don't have to play their game better than them. But we do, and when we do they change the rules because it's not our game. If this was gambling, "the house always wins". Learning how their system works means nothing because they continuously change the rules. But they can do that because it's their game.

We've been playing for other peoples team for centuries, keeping them in the lead. We made this country a superpower by being excellent players, some of us are given tokens to be a coach, and maybe if we smile, tap-dance, and pray about it, a selected few of us might even get to be the owner.

Now it's time for us to create our own game. A brand new one, to where, if you want to deal with us this is how we play the game.

The very first word and image you see when you click on this thread is "Action". Everything I spoke about was about application aka action. This whole thread is dedicated to discussing and applying alternative solutions. Not one person in here encouraged anyone to "sit at home" nor will they.

The question is what are our alternatives to voting? And can we change things without voting?

There's no way you're going to live in america and not be affected by government, especially as a minority. What world do u live in?? This election may have 150 million people voting in a country that has 300 million. The action of not voting has us where we are. So is your plan to overthrow government?? How do u enact meaningful change from the outside, with protests or whatever??

The voting population is half of what the country's population is. So non voters have already been "actively protesting". Where has that lead?? So sticking with the topic at hand, what evolutionary progress will be taken to get the results u want?? Picketing?? Anarchy?? Moving out the country?? Please enlighten me

I don't vote.

I make a very conscious decision not to vote. I believe that actively participating in a system of oppression is actively participating in my own oppression. I do consciously participate in what I believe to be my own and our "Freedom" and "Truth" through action though. I'm pretty active in my neighborhood and community in various ways, but I don't vote. I can't hold someone else accountable for my changing my circumstances and conditions. I have to hold myself accountable and actively and consciously change those conditions.

No matter what any policy or political outcomes there will be, I will always strive to position myself for success.

Is voting a way for us to avoid personal accountability in our lives? Because if everything goes wrong, it's someone else's fault. I get to blame you. But when things go right, well, I was the one that chose that position for you to make things right.

I believe action changes things. Action only. It's the peoples actions that create these so called rules and policies.

So, community comrades. Can we change things without voting? How?

I cosign OP. Anyone who says otherwise is naive.

or maybe just views the world a little different from you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

i personally believe democracy is the best governing system we have as a society so far and voting comes with that ,and its all a working progress till we get the perfect or close to a perfect union.

The US isn't a democracy. It's a Constitutional Republic that functions as a plutocracy.

Instead of asking politians for change, we need to make the change. Our generation, and current ones, are the ones to make that change by getting into politics and getting into positions to make these changes. It first starts w getting the rich out of politics. They have no reasons to be in it.

Politians work for them. A favor for a favor; special interests. Realize it's all about outside issues, none within our country. Flint? Dakota pipeline? BLM? Prisons for profit? None of the candidates are speaking on these issues. Sanders was the only one.

We have to make the change. If I didn't have 6 kids, my wife n I would be doing a lot more together to get in.

May seem "impossible" but as long as that mentality plagues us, we will always continue to complain and do nothing.

@manofmorehouse

Doing the same thing has kept us where we are. Voting is a verb but it's not an action. Doing is the action.

What does The systematic racism, mass incarceration, and vindication of the murdering of Black and Brown people have to do with voting?

What does the criminality of Black and Brown people have to do with voting?

What does a false narrative via all forms of media promote about Black and Brown people have to do with voting?

What does the denial of resources or small business loans have to do with voting?

A solution was already presented with the idea of creating a resource hub where the people come together and use their collective resources to build the needs of the community. And community dollars stay recycled, which would also build individual and community economy. That alone is a powerful solution.

Another solution would be that we reconsider the way we trade with each other. As a human being with free choice of mind and will, we can decide what and how we trade. Two or more people can make a conscious decision to trade 3 cars for a boat, or a vacuum for a guitar, or a vacuum for $20, or a tv for some services, etc.

We can determine individually and collectively what we value. We can redefine "value". If it's not literally nourishing you, keeping you alive or providing energy, "value" becomes subjective. An apple is valuable because my body uses the elements of that apple as energy for my well-being. A piece of paper or a painting, is only as valuable as I allow it to be.

Another way we change things from the outside, like you asked, is by literally going outside and planting a seed and growing our own food. Even if you're in an apartment. Plant and grow your food. Occupy vacant space and plant something. A tree, greens, herbs, aloe, something. Utilizing our local natural resources is gonna take us to another level altogether. Action over policy, Photosynthesis doesn't care about man-made policy, because it's a natural law.

There are many effective and powerful things we can do, or actions we can take, or things we can put in motion and establish, without voting. This thread is about highlighting those actions.

We can't ask permission to do the right thing.

You should vote locally because when you don't you have local law enforcement running amuck, bitch ass faggot Uncle Tom muthafuckas like Ken "Dead Ass Fuck," Thompson as the chief law enforcement official dispensing selective justice that allows people from other groups to harm black people with impunity, or the racist white supremacists that are on the school board will name schools (that are attended by minority students,) after treasonous rebel scum, and they'll buy text books saying the causes of failed insurrection started by the treasonous rebel scum was due to unfair taxes,"state's rights," and black people can to America as "migrant workers."

She did.

They need money to campaign, they didn't have the resources to get out there.

Candidates need internet savvy campaign volunteers. They have to utilize social media more.

Jill isn't going to win. It's too late now.

Third part isn't something we are used to hearing about or caring to vote for. The only reason it's a thing now is because we have two horrible nominees for president.

We have to educate ourselves, friends and family. Speak on these issues and spread the word on how things work.

The majority of Americans are stupid. They will read reviews for restaurants, movies, tv shows and video games for pages and pages. They will learn everything about their favorite show or movie and how that world works, but can't tell you much about our American politics.

It's a backwards country.

If we were more intune with things, third party candidates would do much better. We just believe that it's down to only Republicans or Democrats.

I think it would be a messy few years if third party candidates start winning, but will eventually smooth itself out.

I agree that change will come through the people but I disagree with the getting into politics part. If new or young people are in the seat of the same system, nothing will change, just the faces. The conditions are there because of a system was established.

A new system will have to be established.

Redefining the way we as a people and especially Black and Brown people operate and trade with each other helps create a new and beneficial sustainable and thriving system for the masses.

How do you change the system? By getting in there, no?

We need more ppl to come out and expose those elite and explain this system. Guys like Bernie and Jill.

But isn't this why it's mandatory we put our resources together and start writing our own curriculums and building our schools?

We can build our own schools that focus on our children being entrepreneurs and not employees. They won't need a job when they graduate because they'll create their own lane. We can collectively teach them the truth our history and their value in this world. We can teach them the real lessons they need to know about being an excellent human being, not just a law abiding citizen.

We can take our children out of these institutions and build new ones that teach them the truth about themselves and life.

We can build these places. We don't have to allow anyone to teach our kids otherwise. And we don't have to allow others to tell us what we can and can't teach our children.

I have heard a lot regarding the collective wealth of Black people in America touted as a rationale for us to withhold our vote in the Presidential election.

I've always found this rationale to be peculiar.

It is not the responsibility of the government to provide the people with wealth ... that is incumbent upon the people ... either individually or collectively.

That's why I appreciate and respect what @"NeighborhoodNomad. " is doing for the black community.

We need more of that.

But one of the things the government CAN do is provide mechanisms and infrastructure to introduce fairness and equality into the system.

What socioeconomic groups choose to do with those conditions is up to them.

I think we can all agree that African Americans have significant opportunity in the areas of fairness and equality.

The question I have - is why can't we do BOTH?

Why can't we build up our wealth as a community AND at the same time, enhance our capability to do so by voting for the legislation and infrastructure that aligns with our interests at both the local and federal levels.

Many people have framed this election as voting for a person.

It's not.

A person's background and character should only be considered in so much as it will impact their EXECUTION of the office of the President and the image they project to the rest of the country and the world.

We are electing the national DIRECTION on a swath of imperative issues - Including the systemic policies that can bring more equality and fairness to African American people.

I haven't heard one argument for Trump's future POLICIES and direction for this country over Hilary Clinton's... NOT ONE.

That should tell you something.

Especially considering that one of those two people WILL become president - regardless of what we choose to do.

The President's legislative impact on this country is what will last for generations ... not your personal feelings towards them.

No, you become a part of the system by getting in there, you change it by removing yourself from it and applying something else.

The system is not a natural law, it can't function without the people, natural law can and will function without the people. When people stop applying the rules or policies of the system, said system becomes obsolete.
